It was a slow start (was available on Sky and Freeview earlier!) but the BBCi service for the Olympic Games is now available on the Freesat platform, via the red button, hooray!

Fingers cross for some fantastic footage over the next few weeks, we are all behind you on this one BBC.

(Thanks to all those that emailed us to let us know, and thanks to the BBCi team that have worked so hard over the past few months to get this ready in time, can’t be easy with a new service to cater for)

    Thanks!
Scratching my head and asking myself how come I am watching the Olympics already – surely not.
Yes I am – 3 womens football matches – preliminary stages – 2 in China? and 1 in Tawain. Great stuff!
Hope the BBC will eventually use this multiscreen format for general news use sometime in future as it allows your selected choice (of 6) in full screen.

That’s great. So is the BBCi service in HD on a Foxsat HD box, or is that too much to ask for? ;)

Steve – HD will be available on the BBC HD channel only, all the multiscreens via the red button will be standard-definition.

So is there going to be a news multi-channel soon as well?? Have to say I am pretty happy with Freesat so far. Finally get to watch what I want without having to resort to Sky.

I tried this on Skys , bbc 1, and it works perfectly ??????

Yesterday afternoon BBCi was working on the BBC HD channel, in the evening and today it’s not even though the logo on the i plate suggests it should be there. Am I alone or is it the same for everbody? (Yes, I do know that BBCi content is in SD even on the HD channel)

@brian palmer you need to update your foxsat. Go to Menu -> Setup -> Software Update -> Automatic Update. After the update completes all should be fine.

@brian palmer – the interactive screens are NOT HD on any platform – freesat, Sky or cable . The only HD screen is BBC HD when/if it is showing the Olympics.

Sounds to me like you do not have the latest released version of software on your unit.

Check version via, Menu, System, Diagnostics it is listed as the 3rd item down.

Is anyone else having problems with the interactive service on the panasonic 42pz81 plasma. The interactive service loads but the menu bar stays on the right, and the bottom status is stuck on please wait….

  18. Paul Walker Says:

I have the same problem with a Panasonic PZ81 (TH-42PZ81B). The 3001 Multiscreen loads, then the menu stays on screen, stating “please wait”, but the menu interactive menu system no longer responds and is simply left as an overlay and it appears unusable (you can enter 101 to return to BBC1 etc)

  19. Paul Walker Says:

The PZ81 “System Update” function reports the Current Software Version is 1.608 and “System Update Search Now” reports this is the latest version

  22. Andrew Bowden (BBC) Says:

The Sport Multiscreen on the Panasonic TVs will only work with the latest software download for that TV – Panasonic released the software update on Monday to fix the issues which you’re seeing, so it should be on air this week and most TVs should have picked it up automatically.

If that doesn’t work, best bet is to get in touch with Panasonic customer support – they should be able to help.

  23. Andrew Bowden (BBC) Says:

Actually I should say the same applies for Humax – the Sport Multiscreen is also reliant on the latest software update for the Foxsat.

  24. Paul Walker Says:

Thank you Andrew. Just phoned Panasonic Support who confirmed the Software Update should be released this morning (definately was not released last Monday). The information available to the support chap indicated the new version number will be 1.614. He said the intent was that it should be available before the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

According to Panasonic Support the process to get the update should be as follows:-
    i) Visit the Freesat EPG and wait 20-30 seconds
ii) When you exit the EPG the Panasonic TV should tell you an update is available
