It has been brought to our attention that a number of eBay sellers are listing the Humax FOXSAT-HDR priced as low as £229.

Just a word of warning, should you see this product for sale brand new for significantly less than the major retailers, ask some serious questions about how genuine the product may be before you buy.

The current trade price does not allow for sale at such low prices. We cannot say for certain that these units are stolen, as the individual sellers may be claiming the VAT through a business then selling as an individual, but either way, the practice is questionable and could leave you without warranty cover or even your product.

If you have any questions or concerned, please add a comment. Just looking out for you guys. ;)

How can serial numbers be checked unless the sellers provide them? There’s no scaremongering, just trying to ensure that buyers are aware that these units may come from questionable sellers as their prices are far below the existing trade value available to major and independent retailers alike. We are as keen to see the price drop as everyone else, but not at the risk of the buyer.

A guy selling at £235 and free delivery has a 99.8% feedback rating from 1000 sales. That’s not a dodgy seller as far as I’m concerned.

    @Fluffy
I admire your optimism that you judge the “honesty” of a seller based on the feedback given by people “looking for a bargain”.

    LOL.

They could, of course, be returns under the distance selling legislation, which would be perfectly legit, I’d have thought.

fluffy – feedback doesn’t necessarily tell a whole story though, there’s nothing to suggest you won’t get the product, in which case you may never know how genuinely purchased the product was, or what cover you have, it’s merely a suggestion to those looking for a bargain to do their research first.

We carried out a few enquiries from the cheapest sellers and one suggested their distribution company had thousands, which we know isn’t the case based on current supply levels by Humax. All sellers also responded to state that the warranty was directly with Humax which it isn’t.

Looks like a great deal to me :)

    Don’t see the problem.

Ebay feedback is the most reliable indication of the quality of the product and seller.

Then it’s a good opportunity to buy at a low price :) You just have to hope that the support is there should a fault occur ;)

Remember the full truck load of these that were stolen and only half of them recovered. Ebay is a good outlet for something like that so as already stated Be Warned.

Does anyone have or can any one get a full list of the serial numbers? if they could be posted on here then people can check.

I doubt very much that Humax would be willing to release that information.

    Buy at your peril !
I contacted one of these sellers with a humax for sale asking him several questions about validity, proof of where they came from ,etc-guess what ? No reply !!
Also he was a new seller with no sales ,no feedback !
Does’nt take a genius to work it out ,does it ? !

Unfortunately the vast amount of honest sellers will not question the source of their boxes, but will simply be after the most competitive edge on what is essentially a very mass market product with tiny margins.

Just when are Freesat going to put ALL the digital channels that are available on Freeview Digital? Not one of the TV Five channels can be seen on Freesat? AND
Why are they not more receivers available with recorders? Humax are good recorders and receivers, until you try to delete the programmes!

Ebay feedback is worthless! If you dare to give a negative feedback as a buyer, you’ll get a comparable feedback in return. The seller will, most of the times, wait untill you give an evalution of the transaction. All transactions done without any feedback, should be considered as negative evalutions. Of course these aren’t mentioned!

Let them buy off ebay and get stung.

Appreciate the post, ebay is full of scammers.

For the sake of £30, I rather have a brand new genuine one from a highly respected retailer with a good warranty.

Good post, you’ve all been warned.

your an ape (to be polite)

They’re more than likely A Grade products, which as usually catalogue returns, ex-demonstration equipment, when used on trade shows etc. OR in some cases, (believe it or not), it’s tax dodge to get stock levels down, as tax is rated differently on A Grade products, Thus the manufacturer getting cash back on stock and clearing the warehouses at same time, why else do you think you get Christmas sales???
