Late last night Comet re-launched their Freesat receivers on the website. The Grundigs have re-appeared plus the Humax, albeit presently showing ‘out of stock’ with a price tag of £999!
The receivers include:
- Grundig Freesat SD Receiver (GUFSAT01)
- Grundig Freesat HD Receiver (GUFSAT01HD)
- Humax Freesat HD Receiver (FOXSAT-HD)
We’ll let you know as soon as they are available to buy…when the price is reduced of course!
Edit (15:47) – It seems Comet have removed them again!
Edit (07:44 30/04/08) – Back on again now, same crazy £999 price but all showing available!

Curiously, the specs imply that the Humax can receive Freeview:
“You may need an aerial upgrade to receive Freeview”

oops – they haven’t put the “out of stock” tag on the Grundigs… that could cause them problems!

Its obvious that Comet has just used a Freeview standard spec as a placeholder for the Freesat products – that and 90% of them are clueless, at least the ones that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting…
They all say that theres only 30 channels available – which isn’t true.
And two of them mention you might need an Aerial upgrade – Durr, Moo Ren!

Lucy – I don’t think we have a lot to worry about at the present price
Not a good means of advertising though is it, putting such a high price! Visitors will remember that price then go elsewhere, maybe without checking it again.

been into comet asked fkor a grundig box and they gladly brought one out with a note attached saying donot sell till may the 6th and after pushing them they told me that the price was 999.99 after I stopped laughing I asked for the real price and I was told that is the price sir if you want one today, I told them this was not the way to deal with customers and explained you are doing freesat no favors, I got the impression that theh was not bothered about the service what so ever, I am Beginning to wonder if they have been warned or blackmailed by sky over product pushing and ease of sale issues

The 999 price tag is put on all not yet released products. It was the same for Grand theft auto last night to dissuade people buying it early, so I don’t think there is a conspiracy here….

The links are no longer available – Comet obviously had to much interest in them.

Does anyone know when the HD PVR might be available? Should I wait until it’s released or lash out £149 + aerial installation costs for the standard receiver on 6th May and sell it second-hand later?

Be aware of problems with these receivers on communal ariel systems.
Twice in the last month attempts to set up a Grundig GUFSAT02 (by professionals) have failed. It seems that this model cannot handle very strong signals and requires attenuation filters to be fitted.
The fitters tried to blame the aeriel system but we have other skysat and freesat (Grundig GUFSAT01) receivers working OK.

I have had considerable trouble with the Grundig boxes (around 20 to date) not working when I have installed them new, with some channels dead or breaking up and the “new service” message.
It is caused by too strong a signal from the LNB. Usually a quad, it seems.
An “F” type satellite attenuator (3 to 6 db) at the input to the box has solved it every time, but the situation is not good enough and I am sure Grundig (Harvard) must know about it.
