My hard drive just died and I’ve lost all my recordings. It refuses to re-format. The remote has to be quite close to the set also.

Have had this unit a few months now and hasnt given any trouble, apart from the niggly remote control issue (which lots of people seem to have). I suffered this problem for long enough and eventually got fed up. If youre not afraid of a screwdriver and have a dremel tool (and not afraid to do away with the guarantee,if still under it) with a dental type small grinder bit the problem is easily solved. Unplug everything first and then proceed to remove the top cover (Black screws to back and sides). Then remove the 2 screws that will allow you to unclip the front fascia. Unscrew all 5 silver screws holding the oblong circuit board and remove from front cover. remove the 3 silver push buttons. You will see (on the oblong circuit board)a 3 leaded component that is bent over and has like a little black star on its front (this is the ir reciever unit). Mine was bent at an odd shape, so firstly i gently bent it up from the circuit board until parallel. Now the real problem with this unit is that there is too much solid black plastic for the litle reciever to see the remotes signal from anything other that a completley front on position. You will be able to see the aperture in the solid plastic that the little IR reciever is supposed to recieve the remotes signal through (its simply too narrow). This simply needs widened. I removed approx 6mm (only from the inner black plastic) either side of the existing opening using aforementioned dremel and dental bit. Reassemble the whole unit and voila problem solved. mine now recieves remote signal from a good 30 degrees off square either way.

You need what is called a dual or quad LNB. B and Q do Ross ones and thats the one i use, but it will depend on your dish and clamp bracket if the ross one will fit.

Bought this a while back and while we’re pleased to save money over Sky the remote is awful. It has to be front on and absolutely straight. The distance is terrible too. Looking at what someone else has posted it won’t be fixed with a universal remote either and we don’t want to open up the box and p*ss about with it.
When it was just the remote that was the problem we put up with it, but the recorder also chops the beginning and end off quite a lot of programmes so it doesn’t feel like it’s synced properly with the channels, and this is a right pain in the backside.
Overall we don’t feel like we’ve got our moneys worth at all and quite simply Freesat shouldn’t be allowing inferior products like this to market as it cheapens the name of Freesat and puts people off it altogether.
The fact that Bush don’t even mention the product on their Freesat website and neither the Bush site or Freesat’s own site have a proper email contact address (the Bush site has no contact details at all) only compounds the issue.

I have had this unit for about a year. Now, it ha developed problems in that it sometimes fails to record a programme with the response “the recording has failed” (er – why?). It also no longer pauses live tv – is this a common problem?
SimonQuote
September 10th, 2012 at 4:09 pm
Simon, funnily enough this has just happened to us this past weekend. It has also started recording a programme non-stop – i.e. it just records until the hard drive is full. It ‘recorded’ X-Factor for about 24 hours until we spotted it, had to delete it all and all recordings in between hadn’t worked!
Not had a problem re: pausing live TV. I’m just going to ring Bush tech support now but I have a horrible feeling they’ll just ask me to format the hard drive, which will wipe everything we have recorded over the last year.
Alex Ross-ShawQuote
September 10th, 2012 at 4:28 pm
Just rang up technical support and literally the only advice they can offer is to format the hard drive. If that doesn’t work they won’t do anything but recommend you take it back to Argos to swap it for another one.
He didn’t say anything when I said the remote control quality was appalling and he tried to suggest it was the fault of Channel 4 that it kept chopping the start and end off programmes because they’re notorious for not keeping to schedule. He didn’t have much to say when I said we’d had Sky for seven years and never had the problem once.
I won’t be buying anything from Bush ever again, that’s for sure.

Just bought one of these on ebay, I want to test the operation before I buy a remote control
Can this bu11fsrhd32 be controlled just from the front panel or is the remote control essential?
When I press the “power” button should it do something? Mine just sits there with a blue light on the front.

Hi I bought one of these boxes and have had nothing but trouble with it. Avoid at all costs.
Initial set up is easy then its all down hill.
We have had to retune the box every week, this then entails all the resetting of series linked programs.
Remote must be used directly in front of box.
Glaring distracting blue power light on front of box.
When machine is put on standby for the night unlike Sky boxes it doesnt record the programs set for that night.
Fast forward and rewind on remote are very hit or miss.
Cant power off thru remote
Very disappointed with this freesat box am already looking to replace.

@PR – Probably not illegal as they’d say that the quote on page 550 of their current catalogue saying it will do ITV Player is a publishing error. All their customer “service” section (if ever there was a mis-named section, that’s it!) said is to return it and they’d refund me… It stinks.

Have the same problems with remote control, but blue light keeps flashing light/dim randomly any advise…..
Just had this instead of the high cost of sky but already missing the ease of the sky+ recording system.
If i need to replace will not go with this item will buy a system a little more expensive then might get the quality.

Seems everyone has the remote control pick-up issue – will be modifying my box soon.
The ITV Player issue is annoying but it seems more boxes are becoming ITV Player capable and I’m considering putting our older FreeVIEW PVR upstairs for one of the kids and replace with a YouView box from ebay which gives (a kind of) decent online/on-demand player for our five main broadcasters, though some things are limited due to copyright.
Would mean then we’d have a mix of Freesat+ and FreeviewHD – more than enough to watch and still not giving anything to Murdoch and just paying the yearly ‘Telly Tax’. Leigh.

I agree that the remote control is annoying and poorly designed. Concerning about the ITV Player issue I am now contacting Argos – (Bush’s owner) to find out when or if we will get the service.
I will let you know the response.

Oh boy we wish we had found this site before buying. We are clearly not alone:
- annoying remote but can live with that
- changed glass to frosted because of annoying blue (blinding) light but can’t read panels anymore
- always fails to record HD channels
- often fails to record standard …. but doesn’t say why
- has now started to tell us there is a problem with Hard Drive and need to reformat (and lose what we have saved). solved by turning on/off at mains but the message comes back some hours later

If you have only 1 LNB, you have to leave it on the channel you want to record and watch another channel on your TV. I do not know how to delete the failed recording messeges though, I have loads on my machine when it happened to me. I think it will take a while to manualy delete.

Bought this 2 weeks ago and had nothing but problems with it from the start…. Recordings have been failing to record, some have recorded and playback has failed, box powers down completely for no reason, it’s slow at turning on and off and if that isnt enough when it finally decides it feels like working it says to format the box but on the plus side the remote works fine….
Biggest waste of time and money I have ever spent. Rang up technical support only for him to question why I was ringing as it was an Argos product!!! Will be returning it and requesting money back. Put me off bush products for life

Hi how do you know how to reformat the disk on the Bush bu11fsrhd32 ? I appear to have a few recording issues, onscreen its says that the disk requires reformating, I hope this means I will not loose all my previous recordings.
Do you happen to have a contact email addy for Bush tech support if you are unable to advise about disk reformating?I hope to be able to drop them a line as there only appears to be a landline number
Many Thanks
