About the Grundig GUFSAT01SD Digital Receiver
The Grundig GUFSAT01 Standard Definition freesat Digital Box was released shortly after Freesat’s official launch, although some were leaked out earlier thanks to unsuspecting high street stores who thought they were Freeview boxes! As with all the Alba Group models (Grundig, Bush, Goodmans) this model suffered some early day software issues, mainly the Echostar banner which wouldn’t disappear. Once all matters were resolved, the Grundig has proven itself as the leading SD (standard definition) Freesat box, due to its mid-range cost and reliability. The Grundig GUFSAT01 brings you good quality SD picture and sound, and offers a LNB in/out connection allowing you to piggyback another digital box without the need for another cable from the satellite dish (although a separate cable from the satellite with another Freesat digital box is highly recommended). The EPG (electronic programme guide) is basic and easy to use. The ability to add additional FTA channels is now available.

I bought one of these in May 08. I use it with an analogue TV, DVD recorder and VHS recorder and everything works fine. I have a dish with a single LNB only. I am looking to buy a Humax PVR and wondering whether I can piggy-back it to provide two digital tuners without needing a dual LNB ?

I bought the Grundig at the earliest opportunity. I use it with a Philips CRT telly and was intially disappointed with the picture quality (ghosting etc) until I replaced the scart lead with a good quality one and now think picture quality is good. Generally I am very happy with the unit and Freesat in general as I live in an area where we cannot get Freeview or Ch 5 (though no great loss about 5)
I have a problem recording to VCR – I get picture but no sound. I intend to get the Humax PVR when it arrives, so that is not too much of a problem.

The box is a decent size, looks nice and works well. It’s a nice feature that the power light disappears when on, so it doesn’t distract whilst watching a movie on film4 etc.
The ability to add non-freesat satellite channels is also a nice addition, as i do like NME TV & my wife likes the baby channel.
The only negative i have with this is the remote, it’s very directional, meaning that if it’s not pointing at the box at the correct angle, it won’t work.
But all in all a good box for the money and well worth it to get onto freesat. I only got this as a stepping stone until the PVR comes out, but I really don’t mind holding off for a bit due to the value & quality of the grundig.

I agree in the main with the other comments made and i have one niggling problem with the picture received through this box and that is that about every five minutes the picture appears to freeze for a few seconds causing any people on the programme to appear to be stuttering and shaking their heads in a jerky fashion.Any ideas how to cure this?

I have the same problem as ‘Richard New’. Picture is fine but will sometimes go jerky for a second. I’m glad it is not just me, but can someone help?

I also have this problem of juddering picture with this box. Now, all of us who suffer from this problem are just about due a total refund, upgrade or fix of some sort. I think it is not unreasonable to argue the box is not of merchantable quality. I also have the Humax HD and there is no hint of this problem. In fact disregarding the HD part of this receiver, everything else about it is superior to the Grundig, The on screen interface, the choices available from the handset and in particular the way you can select what you want to watch. I have a Metronic Sat receiver as well and while this is not specifically Freesat friendly, it is still far superior to the Grundig. I’m sorry to say Grundig have a lot to learn!

Ditto, it was initially fine, but for weeks now have the same jittering picture every few minutes with this box. Did an automatic software update occur to cause this problem in the first place?

I too have this problem, it was the last software update 1.3.23 on 17-02-2009 that caused it !
ALBA ( Bush, Grundig, Goodmans ) are aware of it, but try getting an email back from them, it just doesn’t happen.
if you wish to complain :- cecustomerservice@albaplc.co.uk Good Luck !!!

I have a Grundig GUFSAT01SD and it’s great.
However, yesterday the remote control started to behave in a strange way.
All buttons work except, suddenly:
*The channel list button doesn’t function (but the +/- channel button does work0 with no onscreen display
* Menu, Guide, Info, Text and Subtitle buttons no longer work either
Any ideas?

Can’t reset the parental control on a Grundig GUFSAT01SD Satellite Receiver?
I got this Grundig Freesat GUFSAT01SD Satellite Receiver from a friend. When I turned it on it looked for the parental control code, but when I enter the default code 0000 it would not accept it. I navigated to the menu, but could not change the parental control or run the new install. There seemed to be no channels tuned in at this point. so I went to add channels manually and as I added the channels they all appeared in the correct place ie. BBC1 101, BBC2 102 etc. the only thing is that some of the additional channels are in the 3000 range and have a lock symbol beside them. If I use the CH+ or CH- in the 3000 range I can’t scroll past the locked channels (looks for parental control code), if I try to delete any channel (even those in 100’s ranges) it looks for a delete code, 0000 will not work. My friend tells me that the parental control was never set on this receiver. Is there a way to reset to factory setting (backdoor code) or would something else be at play, any ideas?

Hi I have a GUFSAT01SD Satellite Receiver. I have lost the majority of my channels. I have conducted a first time install which seemed to work but after 1 hour they disappeared again. I have since done this 3 times but to no avail. The strange thing is that during the install/set up it says that the signal strength is 98-100%. Yet when the channels disappear it says no signal. Any ideas please?
