Bought a grundig SD from Argos.Must be the new one(model 2009/04).
    One scart and single lnb!
No Ethernet port. That can’t be right!
“All the Freesat products will have an Ethernet connection” -Simon Gauntlett
(DTG) speaking to What Satellite Mag (issue 264).
    Any idea what’s going on?

    @Claude P.

We have no idea why Alba Group / Harvard International have reduced the spec other than to save money. We also thought that all Freesat receivers will continue to have an Ethernet port but obviously not; not sure how this was passed by Freesat.

We’ll ask Alba Group / Harvard International, see if we can get an answer.

I also bought same model from Argos. Only one scart socket. Can’t fault the reception though but can only find a few non freesat channels. am I doing something wrong?

Bought one of these freesat boxes 2 weeks ago. Worked fine for a few days but then found I could only receive about half of the channels. For instance, I can get 4Films but not 4Films+1? A message appears on screen saying ‘New service – please wait’. Re-setup from scratch several times but to no avail. Initial satellite signal is strong 80-90% usually, and some channels that I can’t get also show a strong signal but others none. Don’t know what’s going on and am disappointed. Getting hold of Grundig is difficult as I’m at work when they are open and there is no Saturday service. Not a good start.

  5. Chris R Says:

I also bought GUFSAT02SD some weeks ago. Worked fine for 2weeks then, suddenly one day, about half the channels do not work. Then realized that the vertically polarised channels are not working, but the horizontal are OK. I believe the next stop is the retailer.

      Quote

  6. Craig K Says:

I too bought a GUFSAT02SD about a month ago and for no apparent reason half the channels have stopped working. I can get Channel 4, BBC 2 but no BBC1 or ITV. I can also get More 4 +1 but not more 4! Again, it just continues to say ‘new service … please wait’! Annoying! I managed to call the consumer helpline, where the employee told me to unplug all cables ensure no power to the system then hold the power button on the remote for 30 seconds (to which I asked what the point of that would be!) he then continued to tell me that I should leave it turned off for 10 mins then connect everything up, reinstall all the channels and then it should work no problem. Alas, nothing! Ridiculous advice + poor product = ANNOYED CUSTOMER! So I feel that I too, like Chris R will be back to the retailer!

  7. Rinfrance Says:

The reste is what the OFF button and then plug in does, Check dish alignment, it does seem very particular / picky, also check cable connections.
The Sky boxes seem less susceptible to poor signal.
Also watch the signal strength on the box, does it flick up and down, and does the Quality strength reduce rapidly, you may be getting interference from microwave links.
I must say I connected one up today and I was impressed so we shall see what happens.

  8. Alfredow Says:

I have the same story. All worked at first then loss of all ITV channels. Can’t honestly see what unplugging and holding the remote on/off button would do but willing to try anything

Same story with Grundig customer service hours of hold then cut off!!

    Very annoyed customer.

Got this Freesat GUFSAT02SD. Worked ok for a couple of weeks then lost BBC1 & 2. Along with most of the other free channels. Then BBC2 Came back on. Get a “New Service” then “No signal” indicator instead of a programme!!!!!!!!!!! RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have this model and am very pleased. Does anyone else have a red flashing light in standby. Or does the light show steady red?

      Quote

  11. Peter Says:

Asked Grundig CS about the red flashing light, their reply:

“The flashing power light when in standby is purely to save power and make the unit energy efficient. A unit will use more power with a constant power light as opposed to an alternating light”.

So appears a normal function, strange as it appears like a warning to me, but that’s the official response.

  13. djd Says:

you are losing channels because of the digital switchover, the channels in your area are not transmitting vertivally only horizontally so you will have lost ITV 2, FIVE US, FIVE etc some areas have changed already whilst some, (central and yorkshire) are changing soon.

Some people getting freesat using there skybox are recieving warnings on screen that they will lose some channels soon unless they contact sky and pay £20 for a new viewing card.

      Quote

  14. Dan M Says:

    @djd

FTA satellite is not affected by the digital switchover….

You are thinking about freeVIEW (tv via ariel) not freeSAT (via satellite).

How can you not know this?

Even changed box with one I know works but same problem so think problem not with box. I am running 4 cables from a satalite dish first three are fine its just this last installation. Help.

  18. Dave Says:

I have had considerable trouble with the Grundig boxes (around 20 to date) not working when I have installed them new, with some channels dead or breaking up and the “new service” message.
It is caused by too strong a signal from the LNB. Usually a quad, it seems.
An “F” type satellite attenuator (3 to 6 db) at the input to the box has solved it every time, but the situation is not good enough and I am sure Grundig (Harvard) must know about it.

I bought a Grundig box in November. It worked for 2 weeks superbly and then “no service” message appeared. I reset the box so many times before Xmas I lost count. I called Freesat (good service) and was redirected to Grundig. They were rubbish! Not sure they took me for an idiot because I’m a woman but was fedup with them! I reset the box again as per their instructions, got to put some obscure postcode, could not get regional news and then lost most of bbc, ITV etc channels. Got refund at shop, when reported faulty and bought another model, more expensive. Worked for one day and not working again, with no signal or no service. SOOOOO FED UP. I am considering buying another brand!

  21. Satman Says:

Just stay clear of this pile of worthless crap. I sub contract to a shop that insists on selling this joke of a sat unit and i can honestly say 50% are faulty right at install point. No signal on BBC1 and ITV2 etc etc etc. Nothing wrong with the dish or LNB or cable (ive been installing since 1987(yes that long)) and i can honestly say this is the most unrealiable box ive ever seen. I’ve started holding my breath on startup with the damn things. Stick to Humax . I know they cost more but the grundig is like a car with only 2 wheels and no seats. its a car..kinda. I’ve pointed out to the shop that i am going to start to install the dish only and they can install the boxes cos from a pro’s point of view its damn stupid to try and demonstrate a product thats clearly doesnt and is not going to work right. 50% failure…omg. We have more in store waiting to go back than on the shelf to sell. Also there are some that turn themselves on and off repeatedly..is this a feature? I’ve seen some poor gear in my time but oh dear at this joke of a box. Also has anyone noticed the lines constantly in the background all the time? Go on take a look even worse with the menu on.

    One more time STAY CLEAR.

      Quote

  22. Dave Says:

    I agree with every word.
I just cant continue to fit these.
The lines and very poor pic are there on all of the ones I have fitted recently. )(The ones that work at all!) A number of customers have complained about them.
Also the picture on RGB is much weaker than on composite so I have had to leave a number of them set to composite.
    Overall, total crap.
I would always use a Humax or Technisat given the chance but I cant justify the price to customers who are Freesat-only due to poor terrestrial area and just need extra boxes for the kids rooms etc.
If decent FTA boxes can be made for Europe at £39 to £59 with good spec, two scarts, audio out, etc etc why not for Freesat?
Simple, its for the British market….we dont care!!

So far I havent been able to make anyone take my complaints about the Grundig boxes seriously.
Does anyone have a phone number for anyone at Harvard (Grundig) who will be of any help at all?

  23. Clive Says:

I bought 2 of these boxes 3 weeks ago to replace 2 Bush ones that we were were also having problems with. Apparently, after reading through various forums, it looks like there was a batch of these boxes made outside of the usual factory in September 2009, and all were faulty. Just so happens that both mine were made in that month / year!! Anyway, when I switch mine onto standby, they both switch themselves back on within about 10 seconds of being switched off! Grundig say they have never heard of this fault and keep saying they will get back to me within 24-48 hours but have never rung back in 12 days!! The people I have managed to speak to there are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard and half the time I can’t understand what they are saying. Does their customer service number actually go through to somewhere in the uk or not?? In the end, I got really fed up and rang Argos customer service, who then passed me onto their technical help desk. They have told me to go back to our local Argos shop (this is obviously where I bought them both from) and demand that they replace them with better boxes of a different make (not Bush, Alba, Goodmans or Grundig…All part of the Alba group!), and if needs be, get them to ring their technical department to confirm exactly what I have told them. I’m on my way today, so fingers crossed!!

  24. Dave Says:

Unless you pay quite a bit more for a Humax (although these are excellent and HD) then all of the cheaper true “Freesat” boxes are made by the “Harvard” group (Bush, Alba, Goodmans, Grundig)

I am having the same problems with my Grundig freesat box. I bought a bush freesat box originally, bought at argos, swapped it when I discovered it didnt show stv, channel 4 +1, more 4 and basically dozens more channels which continually show ‘new service..please wait’. Same thing happened to the other bush freesat box and then a third time after swapping and paying a little extra for my grundig freesat box. After 2 months of despair and reading forums, I discover that no vertcial frequency channels are shown. Whats more, no one seems to have a clear solution to fixing it. Very unhappy customer!

      Quote

  27. Sean Says:

Just to update, I mentioned yesterday about my despair with Grundig freesat box. It turns out that I had someone call round who fixes tvs etc and he checked things out for me. He got a strong vertical and horizontal signal on his gadget that he ussed to check frequency, and tried to readjust the LNB outsde by changing its postion; it mysified him why it didnt work (it was a 5 year old sky lnb i was using. He then put in a newer LNB and hey presto, I now get all the channels. Whats more, as he is an aquaintance, he refused to take money of me. Wife to buy him a box of chocs and some wine. So I would strongly suggest a possibility for many is simply changing the lnb, which I gather is not too difficult. But definately worth it.

  29. SteveandJohn Says:

Also, old LNB’s work the Grundig Boxes completely fine, but a newer batch we have received (both singles and quads), do not seem compatible and cause the missing channels. Can anyone shed any light on this

      Quote

  30. Clive Says:

Well, from my last post, Argos still have not got any stock of the Grundig box yet, and they wouldn’t change my existing one for a different make. They said I would have to wait a couple of weeks before going back to see if they had any new stock in. 2 weeks is now up, and guess what, still no stock, and better still, the GUFSAT02SD is no longer on Grundigs website!! Anyway, replying to the later posts, I can get ALL the channel 4 set (C4, C4+1, E4, More 4 etc) without any problems. When Freesat was fitted, I had an Octo LNB (8 way) put in, so all the rooms in our house with TV points could get freesat, should we decide to change the rooms / TV’s round. The first one they brought was dodgy, so they got a replacement and it works fine. The only slight problem I have is that when I switch freesat on, if my sky box is on and being watched in another room, it makes the the picture go off for a few seconds. Apart from that, no other problems. I’ve just got to keep trying with Argos, and right them a nasty letter about what they are selling me!!

These receivers will not work when fed from a multi switch distribution system, all the other makes connected worked fine, tech sales say “signal too strong these boxes have a built in booster”, this is not just a one off I tried three new units and none of them would receive BBC 1 or 2 it would also seem that the signal bargraph means nothing.
I have now tested these units on an old single LNB with a much lower signal and they work fine.
We shall not be installing any more.

In Spain this receiver costs €129, so this is not a cheap receiver.I`m very angry with this made.I tought grundig was a good brand.
I think them should find a solution changing the firmware,I don´t think that the booster may be the fault. If we fit an attenuator we´ll lost the weakest channels! It´s ridiculous.I hope them realise that it´s product is a fake.

Hi. I have a Grundig Freesat box which replaces one I’ve just sent back. That was returned because the picture would freeze without warning. Within 40 minutes of setting up this new one, the same problem arose and the only way to unfreeze the set is to unplug it from the mains and plug it back in. It will not respond to the remote once the picture has frozen. The problem seems to happen more often when the Sony dvd recorder is switched on. Help?! For reference, the box showed 90% signal on setup.

Having switched from Freeview to FreeSat I have very quickly realised that the Humax Foxsat-HDR I bought 2 weeks ago is (a) a great bit of kit and (b) far too complicated for my dear (non tech) wife. So I thought I’d buy the super simple Grundig to run alongside the Humax so she can do her thing while I’m out of reach. The postings here make it clear that the Grundig is not the answer. Any suggestions for a simple non recording SD box in the under £100 price range and preferably with minimum number of nice big buttons on the remote. Must have a decent 7 or 8 day EPG

Wish that I had read this forum before purchasing one of these boxes. Bought 3 Grundig Freesat boxes and 1 worked fine and the other 2 had channels with no signal or started to freeze. Exchanged 2 boxes and then all worked well for 2 hours and then the same problems reappeared. Reported it to Amazon whom now have removed these from their portfolio. Went to Argos to get a box to see if a different batch worked. In short all boxes now work apart from a bizzare situation whereby BBC1 does not work when 2 of the boxes are switched on at the same time. Turn one box off and all is well on the other ! Dave – You seem to be the expert here – Is the LNB the issue here now ?

Bought a Grundig GUFSAT02SD at Sainsburys in Aug 2010, tested in UK on Sky system, worked initially, then started freezing, no sound, no response to remote. Needed rebooting by unplugging and plugging in again to work for a few hours.

Thought these were settling in problems. Moved to France, to replace old SKY box, same problems. Only advice Sainsbury’s could give was to ring Grundig Helpdesk, at my expense!

    Absolute rubbish piece of kit.

On return to UK, will return the box for a refund, as these problems seem to the almost universal and known about for the past year and the units should have been withdrawn from sale.

i too have suddenly got the missing channels problem.

doing some measurements i’ve found that in my case the lnb voltage fed from the grundig that should switch from H to V is constant at about 20v (H) and does not reduce down to 14v (V) when a vertical channel is selected – hence the Vertically polarised channels dont work.

this can be confirmed by rotating the LNB by 90 degrees, when one finds all the vertical channels working now but not the horizontal ones!

hi everybody, last November I bought the free-sat Grundig gufsat02sd, worked fine for 10 months, and last week the box started ticking a noise similar to an old alarm clock and I could not get any reception, the indicator ‘on’ light went out, the red light kept on flashing. Phoned up the shop I bought it from and nothing could be done as it passed its six month guarantee, (he said). I thought Grundig were more serious then this. I was kept on hold when phoned the number under the box for advice. It is sad really, because I paid the ‘high street shop’ £150.00 for the set up box, dish and installation.

Can’t get them back, not convinced it is a box or lnb problem. Have checked all over web and there seems to be no clear explanation of what the real problem is
if anyone has an answer I’d love to hear it! Fortunately have freeview in abundance so can get all channels but film4+1 would be useful. Freeview occasionally has glitches but freesat never does so it is much better for recordings

I’ve had two of these units, one from Tesco and one from Argos, about 6 months apart. Both worked fine with about 80% signal strength for a couple of weeks then lost all channels except BBC. The Tseco one went back for a refund; I still have the Argos one. My dish is a large one and signal is good. I’ve read forum messages about power supply problems with older Grundig units and software problems with the newer ones. I’ve had enough – getting a decent product like a Humax HDR or similar and I wouldn’t touch another Grundig product in the future.
