About the Humax HB-1000S Freesat HD <free time> Digital Box

Freesat, the subscription-free satellite TV service, has today announced the launch of its new Freesat HD with freetime box, further bolstering the products available with freetime built in. The Freesat HD with freetime box is manufactured by Humax and will be available to buy from the 12th September from retailers including John Lewis, Currys PC World and a range of independents such as Satbuyer. The shelf price will be in the region of £99.

Freesat’s freetime service launched to great acclaim a year ago, bringing new features to Freesat, including a Roll Back TV guide that lets viewers ‘turn back time’ to watch programmes that have already been on, ‘Showcase’ providing daily TV recommendations and enhanced On-Demand.

The new Freesat HD with freetime box allows viewers to tune into over 180 free digital TV and radio channels, six of which are available to watch in HD, with more to come in the New Year. As part of the freetime family of products, the new box offers the full set of the UK’s top On-Demand players – BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD, Demand 5 and YouTube. The new compact box provides all the key benefits of freetime to viewers wanting to choose a stylish, value option or those looking to add freetime to a second or third room in their home. Freetime products which give intelligent record ability are already available in-store and online.

The new Freesat HD with freetime box is a natural extension of our award winning TV service, and it’s great to build on the popularity of the service,

said Matthew Huntington, Freesat’s Chief Technology Officer.

It’s a product we’re really proud of, offering the popular benefits of freetime such as Catch-Up and On-Demand TV, including BBC iPlayer, 4oD and YouTube, via a slick TV Guide which rolls back in time and also gives recommendations on what to watch.

Graham North, Commercial Director of Humax, commented:

The affordable Humax HB-1000S brings the seamless freetime TV guide to cost-conscious consumers, opening up the opportunity for more people to benefit from this leading subscription-free satellite service. It offers the first low-cost option for the freetime range, without compromising on the performance and quality that TV viewers expect from Humax and Freesat.

Freesat is growing the freetime features’ set over time, including a remote record and remote control app for phones and tablets as well as the introduction of additional movie and music services.

  1. Hey just got the HB-1000s and was wondering does it have a back button or feature that takes you back to your previous channel you were watching? so you dont need to keep going to the guide..

  2. Just installed mine to add to a Technisat HDFS setup
For those times you truly need a Dual Tuner 😉

I wrote to HUMAX with the following question and if or when I get a reply I will append this post however some of you already have my answer I will bet :

Just purchased a HUMAX Freesat HD Model HB 1000S to add to my Technisat HDFS setup

Great picture Great interface Great Box Great Value (even if I hate the way Favourites are accessed)

However I will now attempt to purchase a USB HD that will work – From my past experience this does not always go well

So I know it needs to be formatted NTFS although I expect the box takes what it finds and formats it the way HUMAX wants it.

However my old Technisat had a Maximum partition of somewhere around 500 GB

Now 1 and 2 TB USB drives are readily available great for mass archive so can you tell me – and make wider information on the best drives – Approved drives ? and considerations we should make when making a purchasing decision.

Oh and I already established an external powered device is the one to go for – But others may buy USB powered disc drives – You could save customers buyers remorse if you at least published if this was the case with your box.

    THANKS for your attention

  3. I can’t get subtitles on my freesat Humax HD box for BBC iplayer. Does the new free time box have subtitles? It’s ridiculous that subtitles are not available for iplayer on my freesat HD box like they are for most of the channels. I thought there had to be equality of accessibility for all disabled groups including the hard of hearing!
I have searched through your FAQ page and can find no mention of where to access subtitles on iplayer with freesat. Yes I can get it on a computer but obviously it’s much more convenient watch on a tv.

  4. Senior: not technically minded.
Seriously considering going down the free sat route with the HB 1000s
Is it possible to record any TV programme on this Humax box

  5. Just spotted that Humax Direct now supply a “Graded” HB1000S for £69 plus £5.95 delivery (total £74.95). From my experience of Humax Direct, these are likely to be in as new condition and supplied with a 12 month warranty.
