About the Humax HDR-1000S Freesat+HD Freetime Digital Box

Introducing the next generation in free digital viewing the Humax HDR1000S 500GB Freesat+ with free time Digital Satellite Recorder offers unbeatable TV recording and viewing flexibility with bucket loads of storage space.

The benefits of Freesat+

First and foremost, the range of viewing choices is extraordinary with 150 Freesat channels as standard, and there are 5 free HD channels on offer too.

The Freesat+ Digital Satellite Recorder brings you all of this and more with its fabulous functionality. Including the outstanding programme guide feature, you’ll be able to find the programmes you love far more easily.

The advantages of free time

With its true twin tuners, the HDR-1000S Satellite Recorder allows you to record two channels whilst watching another – 2 channels are on the same multiplex, so you can be sure not to miss out on your favourite programmes while watching something in the moment. You’ll be able to create a veritable library of your favourite shows to view time and again at your leisure.

The Showcase feature from Freesat+ will tantalise you with the day’s top TV picks, and there’s the facility to pause and rewind live TV, so you can replay your favourite moments to your heart’s content. If this isn’t enough, the brilliant scroll-back EPG with selected broadcaster catch up services lets you see shows you’ve missed from the past 7 days via BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 offers great online viewing with clever recording and recommended TV content with Showcase and Video On-Demand.

The built-in 500GB hard drive can store up to 125 hours of HD programmes or 300 hours of SD programmes, guaranteeing a satisfying TV viewing experience any time.

Quality functions and connectivity

This top-class Digital Satellite Recorder features touch sensitive buttons and there is a very useful universal remote supplied from which you can initiate series, split, accurate, and one touch recording. The recorder can also be configured as a client or server device on your home network to facilitate streaming content from other DLNA devices.

Other brilliant features on the HDR-1000S Recorder include video on-demand, recommended content and easily-accessible internet content via the ethernet connection, keeping you totally up to date and in the loop. There’s a USB port as well for easy file sharing and device expansion.

Quality and control For peace of mind, the Satellite Recorder has full parental control features, and subtitles are also available to make sure everyone’s included. Last but not least, excellent picture and sound quality are ensured via the included HDMI and SCART cables, and the Quick Start guide eliminates all setup hassles.

Bring the Humax HDR1000S 500GB Freesat+ with free time Digital Satellite Recorder into your home to take your entertainment setup to the next level.

  1. Pricing on freetime boxes is simply daft
will stay on freesat+ for now
think the manufacturers are just taking the mickey

  2. is this still a buggy box? it’s also got to the stage where you wonder if 4OD &5OD is not going to arrive.

  3. I had one of these for a few days before taking it back and getting the older Foxsat HDR. I am much happier. OK, so I don’t now have YouTube or 4OD, but I can copy stuff onto usb and I prefer the list view EPG that the Foxsat offers. The box is a dissapointment.

  4. I have in the last few days bought one of these, compared to the Manhatton box thier not even on the same planet. The remote is quick and easy and the box so far functions perfectly.

Id have prefered a little more info on the direct sales site . Maybe then id not have invested in Freetime, however i cannot yet fault this box and have taken the upgrade on the 26th .

Any news on a competitor to Humax for a freetime box ?

Not this year, they have nicely sewn up this corner of the market.

Still think its very anti-competitive of freesat to only allow 1 manufacturer for the freetime boxes

  7. Are the only problems with this box to do with the freetime. I don’t particularly need freetime as I don’t have the bandwidth but I do want the ‘extra’ channels and the ability to switch between freetime and FTA channels without the whole thing crashing.

Will this box do this ?

Still no online version of the user manual?
Or knowledge whether it has multiple satellite (incl. timer recording) capabiltites?
Or if there is a non-freesat mode, etc…?

    Can anyone answer the above?

  9. Please help before my wife kills me……

Had a Foxsat HDR and it rarely failed me.

I wanted the new all singing all dancing 1000S and its been rubbish. It misses recordings and when it does miss, it doesn’t tell you what program its missed, just gives you a time and date so you have to go back a look what’s not recorded. Anecdotal evidence seems to be if you have a recording and cancel it, it disappears but something hangs round in the back ground stopping replacement programs recording.

Worst of all is that when you turn it on it fails to power up HDMI on about 20% of tries. This tends to be when its recording something so you can’t reboot it to get it up and running. Have tried new HDMI cables, moving ports, swopping devices and PS3, PC, Sky all work fine where ever you put them.

Contacted Humax about the issues but got no response.

Has anyone else experienced these problems, and if so did you find any solution so I don’t have to hear, “I told you it was a waste of money” anymore.

  10. @Pete: Idon’t know if this will solve your HDMI issue with the new HDR-1000S but my Foxsat HDR is notoriously bad at not handshaking properly. Especially, as you say, when it turns itself on to record. I’ve found it can be rest by taking the HDMI plug out and pluggig it back in while the TV is switched to th HDMI port – this causes the handshake to happen again.

  11. Hi set it to record when I was out and left it on standby but when I came back home it had not recorded, the hand book trouble shooting says it must be left on, is this right or am I doing something wrong? What do you think? Thank you.

  13. Help ! We turned on our hdr 1000 1tb box yesterday to be greeted with the message ” no signal being received ” all was fine up till then ! I checked the signals & if I swap cables over I can watch programmes, that is if I don’t use record .. I can only record the programme I am watching which isn’t much good !! .. If I swap cables back I can’t do anything .. Suspect this is due to latest update ! .. Any help appreciated & has anyone else got similar problem.

  14. Had aerial engineer out to check sat dish & he said cable must be at fault as one cable worked in both inputs . Changed cables & all ok now !

  15. I have dish with 2 LNBs and diseq switch to watch both UK free to air channels and foreign channels on Astra. I now bought Humax HDR 1010s , can I this be used with diseq switch to watch also foreign channels? I can download non-freesat channels with the menu but they only seem to be additional English channels from the same LNB…
    Does anyone know more?

  16. I notice there is now a 2TB version of the HDR 1000S available (£289 from Humax Direct). I’m not sure if this is a new model, or just a way of clearing stocks of non Wi-Fi versions of the HDR? The Wi-fi models also now appear to be available in black, with both 500GB and 1 TB hard drives.
Of late, Humax seems to have a policy of “soft launching” new models without publicising them. Maybe they don’t need to!

Wouldn’t surprise me if Humax have launched new models and not told anyone, they don’t even tell their partners, and quite often like to sell the ‘old’ stock to their approved retailers keeping the newer models for themselves initially! Can’t however see the wifi version of the HDR-1000S 500GB or 1TB on their direct website?

  18. Admin – you are right the “HDR-1000S/500GB WiFi” is in fact a standard model supplied with a Wi-Fi dongle. Ditto the 1TB model.
