About the Grundig GUFSDTR500HD Freesat+ Digital Receiver

The GUFSDTR500HD Freesat+ High Definition Receiver is a Freesat PVR twin tuner 500GB hard drive receiver from Grundig, part of the Harvard Group, for use on the Freesat satellite television platform.

The GUFSDTR500HD receiver allows up to 125 hours HD and 312 hours SD recording time from the 500GB hard drive (depending on broadcast format), is a twin tuner allowing you to record one channel whilst watching another (two cables from your satellite dish required).

Note – Don’t forget that you’ll need a twin/quad LNB and two cables from your satellite dish to make full use of the twin tuners; with just a single cable from your satellite dish, you can still use but with limitations on recording, see our article on operating a PVR with one input.

Had this installed for a few weeks having ditched Sky at last. Generally happy but would mention the following:
=> if you have had a Sky box (tuner only) before you’ll probably find this box relatively slow in opertaion (particularly starting up) and quite noisy
=> HD picture is excellent but non HD channels don’t seem to be as good as they were on Sky.

I have had mine working for about two days. Picture is good but on HD channels it loses sound sometimes live and most frequently when playing back recordings. Can anyone help?

I am concerned about the high level of noise the Grundig HDPVR makes. Is there something wrong with the software or is it the fan itself? Does anyone know (objectively) how the Grundig’s noise level compares with that of Humax HDPVR?

I know the last question is a little old but in case anyone else wanted to know, I bought a Humax Foxsat HDR to replace my Sky+ box yesterday and so far so good, no noise whatsoever and great picture quality on both HD and non-HD. For some reason it hasn’t picked up ITV1HD automatically like it did with BBC HD, does anyone know if it has to be added manually with FreeSat?

I had a freesat dish and digi box installed – works perfect in the living room

With extra rooms – got engineer to install extra cables in spare rooms.

Just got a 2nd freesat grundig digi box – it self loads on screen witht he men screen showing but no signal . what is required to get this working.
which was installed by prof engineers – as they also installed extra cables in spare rooms to receive freesat digi box sets for future use.

Dont want to pay call out charge of £50 for engineer to retune telly as I feel its less than a 10 minutes job ? I am puzzled ?

Some please advice and help ? comments welcome.

Yes- tv used to work perfect with virign digi box few months back there is nothign wrong with the tv.

Hi I am trying to do a first time install on a Grundig free sat STB. What is the default value to unlock the box to allow new channels to be installed?

Bought this two days ago, no audio on iPlayer, no audio recorded on certain HD channels, has frozen twice, switch off switch on, will be going back to Tesco tomorrow.

Bought this a couple of weeks ago. Fan is invasive & seems to operate whenever it feels like it – even when the unit is first switched on. Connect to quad LNB but will not allow recording one programme whilst watching another :(
Beginning to think I should have kept hold of Sky+ box as it still delivered channels without subscription.
