Freesat launches first campaign by Mr. President

Mr. President has created the latest campaign for Freesat, the UK’s subscription-free satellite TV service. This highlights their TV services and companion mobile app, which consumers can access without a subscription. This is the first work the agency has created for the satellite TV provider, since the agency was appointed in the summer this year following a 3 way pitch.

Since launching in 2008, Freesat has become the preferred TV service for 1.9m UK households with 4m viewers tuning in to watch TV through a Freesat TV or set-top-box each week. Within a competitive marketplace Freesat sets itself apart by offering a subscription free satellite TV service with over 200 channels and features including; catch up and on demand services, a companion mobile app and the ability to pause, rewind and record live TV.

The brief and strategy behind the cross-media campaign aims to reach pay TV subscribers who are considering switching from their current provider and looking for an alternative which delivers a quality service that saves money. The campaign will run from October to take advantage of the peak selling period for consumer electronics.

The creative theme of the campaign is ‘Unbelievably Good’, which is based on the high level of advocacy and satisfaction uncovered from existing Freesat customers. The TVCs dramatise the disbelief people experience when they first switch to Freesat and discover the rich content offering, smart features and user experience, all subscription free.

Jennifer Elworthy, Director of Marketing and Communications at Freesat, commented:

With market leading customer satisfaction figures we’ve always known our customers love Freesat, particularly those who have switched from Pay TV. Mr President’s strategic approach uncovered an amazing level of customer advocacy and we’re so excited to see this insight come to life.

Jon Gledstone, Creative Director at Mr. President adds,

It’s not often you find people raving about a product as passionately as they do about Freesat. And I don’t just mean complimentary – one woman publically stated that switching to Freesat was the best decision of her life (spare a thought for her husband and children). So when the words of the consumers are so unbelievably good, it makes the copywriters job a doddle. And long may this continue.

The campaign includes media ITV, VOD, print and digital. The campaign runs from 17th October.

  1. Not looked back since we put the Sky box and subscription in the bin. I have an evil laugh when I hear people moaning that the price has gone up.

  2. had freesat for ages the only Channels I watch off platform are Dave, Home & Quest I would Suggest anyone Moving in to a place that has a Sky Mini dish or a Flat that has a Communal Dish to concider Purchasing a Freesat box. Mind you freesat need to work on adding some new Channels be it Standard or High Definition. The weird thing about Freesat is the Post Code System cause on Freeview My local Transmitter is Ridge Hill which broadcasts BBC1 Midlands on Channel 1 where My Freesat box has BBC Points west on Channel 101.

  3. This is a really good campaign, caught it on ITV last night. Interestingly too, and only a recent thing, ads are now being aired in HD and ITV are leading the way with this – seems odd it’s taken so long when HD has been around for ages!

This as conveys the product well in a clear and concise way, something previous campaigns have been slated for. Let’s hope this year it gets the message across! In fact, I’d easily go as far to say that Freesat’s campaign gets the product across better than what Freeview are doing this time around 🙂

Yes I agree, when my neighbours are sitting down to some premier league football, or the latest red hot drama like Westworld I laugh out loudly as I watch “I claim 50k in benefits and want more”on ch5, or maybe a bit of come dine with me on 4 (should show it more often, not enough repeats in my opinion) or maybe a little coronation St ,hollyoaks or neighbours I just pmsl thinking how jealous they must be that I get all this quality entertainment for free… don’t understand them at all…….

I suspect they are all laughing at you with the attitude and no respect for another persons opinion; grow up, you can’t act like a child forever!

Well you could start by looking up the meaning of sarcasm. As the original post by ‘j j was in the same context shouldn’t you have replied to tell him to grow up to? Or are only pro freesat childish statements ok by you … Don’t bother, facts don’t often get in the way of slagging of people who don’t subscribe ( pun intended) to the ideology that free equals quality…

  7. Now Now Jack, didn’t mean to start WW3. I am stating that for me personally I am glad the subscription went. I can’t stand football and Westworld wouldn’t float my boat. Besides Its all mind control. The TV is an evil entity which tells you how to think, what opinion to have and also blatantly lies to you. It also makes you very angry. Just take a step back and listen to the conversations people have. I guarantee its always about what hey have wasted their time watching on TV the night before. Go out get some air, enjoy being outside, spend some time with someone you love and really listen to them. Most of all have fun its not worth it just switch off the TV once in a while. The elite want us slaves to think a certain way and the TV is used for this purpose. on that subject please let me know how you manage to claim 50k in benefits. Thats a good payout nice one.

Well you could knock me down with a feather. Didn’t realise you were a fellow anarchist j j . “He who lays his hand on me ( or tv subscription) to govern me is an usurper and a tyrant. I declare him my enemy” :-):-):-)

  9. Best marketing campaign Freesat could have would be to get some more good channels!

Number of channels has dropped in recent months. HD quality is poor generally (my opinion) due to low bit rates and there are still glaring omissions in the schedule eg lack of sport, Dave, Quest, etc. I understand Sky dropped “Extreme” so why no attempt to woo them onto Freesat as a free offering?

They’ve also never re-ordered the channels properly. Said it a long time ago – All the HD channels need to be near the top with SD relegated to below. 4K channels placers need to start appearing at the very top eg 101 should be reserved for BBC 1 4K, 102 for BBC 2 4k etc, and everything needs to be grouped together ie. 4k, then HD, then SD.

I also fail to believe that Film 4 is less popular than the channels above it!

  10. I agree freesat best campaign is it’s got Dave channel included not sure if sky will still let it go cos it’s still listed in there entertainment pack.

  11. Yeah it may still be under contract.

What it really needs though top really open the platforms up is a PSB fee, rather than a platform fee whereby 1 fee is paid by a channel and it gives them the right to broadcast on BOTH Freeview and Freesat. That would take away the double cost implications of choosing between the two. The fee of course may be double or near double, but there would no longer be the choice where a broadcaster could favour paying for one platform over the other.

  12. A single fee would make a lot of sense since the two platforms are largely complementary. But the ownership of Freeview and Freesat is different, so that may present a problem. And with Sky one of the joint owners of Freeview (not quite sure why?), maybe that explains the presence of Dave.

  13. Wow I didn’t realise sky owned abit of Freeview they must think it’s worth money cos that’s all they bothered about
Maybe that’s why years ago sky sports news was on don’t think that will happen again

Still back on topic. I’m hoping for a big freesat push this year what’s left of it.

  14. Got the both freesat in one bedroom and sky down in the living room freeviwe in the palour with now tv box got the entertainment pack that gives me sky one sky attlantic and gold ext now why cant freesat give us a choice like that its so easy you only need the app no card involved pluse i watch freesat more than i do sky but still would like a choice of adding some channels for a payment now tv is only 6.99 a month

  15. Ye I like the sound of now tv app on FREESAT maybe dodgy sky can stop falling out with people and realise we’re all here together and let Dave join freesat aswell.

Freesat does. You’re talking about Freesat from Sky which is entirely different. Freesat has free recording and no cards are needed for viewing or recording.

It also has some pay services on demand.

  17. Latest announcement I read elsewhere is that the BBC are launching 4K HDR broadcasts on iPlayer (Internet) only, because “DTT broadcasting was proving difficult” (paraphrased).

Looks like Freesat is getting overlooked again. Seems that neither the BBC nor government want Freesat to prosper. Instead they’re still looking towards Freeview which in my opinion is a waste of space (due to it’s limitations) and as an alternative the web which according to others views and my own, amounts to pay tv (because you need to be able to afford a fibre service to watch it!).

    So much for Free TV!

Yes that’s what I v got in the bedroom a manhatten freesat box hasn’t got free time on it just the basic

  19. I don’t think I’m been greedy I’m just wanting DAVE channel. Yes some people like it and some don’t but that goes for most of the channels.
