Freeconomics and Freakonomics are different things, but the latter has more widespread understanding because of the book. Pretty good book I thought!

Freakonomics - taking the complex statistical analysis more typically used in "boring" pure economics and applying it to everyday problems, to discover the underlying truths, e.g. the hidden incentives that drive estate agents to sell your house for less, or "why crack dealers live with their mums"

Freeconomics - a marketing label for the trend of products and services being available to consumers for free; businesses then make money from other angles, usually advertising or commision, based on their ability to deliver an audience to advertisers or sellers. E.g. thelondonpaper and London Lite, free photocopying for students (adverts on the back of the paper), and any number of internet intermediaries that gather (supposedly) impartial market info and provide it for consumers (moneysupermarket, rightmove, pricerunner, etc)

This is quite strange to see Cliffe's comments, and totally agree.

I have been having the same problem I would love to join Freesat - but feel they have somewhat exagerated on the number of separate Chann's they actually provide.
If they will do that now - how can we belive them when they state there will be 200 channels by the end of 2008.
Or are they being Free economically or just Free with whatever they say.

Although I understand this service went live Early May 2008 with over 80 Digital Channels I am only able to locate 78 in June 2008 and some of those appear to be repeated Channels - such as BBC News and Regional TV in addition to S4C Digital which is shown under Entertainment and also News & Sport.

"Freecomonics already proves that there are an awful lot of people out there who are happy with free TV."

Is this a reference to the book "Freakonomics" by Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt? If so, what is that reference I wonder? Anyone who has read the book would find this quite surprising I think.
