Freesat will be the only subscription free TV platform to carry all three of Channel 4′s extra live HD Paralympic channels, C4 Paralympics Extra, throughout the London 2012 Paralympics. The channels will offer an extensive range of live coverage, giving viewers three extra video feeds of action from the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which open on 29th August and close 9th September.
This follows on from Freesat carrying all 24 BBC Olympic HD channels, for the duration of the Olympic Games.
Channel 4′s Commercial and Business Development Director, Sarah Rose, said:
We’re thrilled Freesat customers will be able to access C4 Paralympics Extra, Channel 4′s three dedicated channels of live coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. This further contributes to Channel 4′s ambition to bring viewers the most extensive coverage of the Paralympic Games ever broadcast in the UK.
Managing Director of Freesat, Emma Scott welcomed the agreement, saying:
The launch of these new Channel 4 HD services is fantastic news for our customers. The additional 24 BBC Olympic HD channels on Freesat proved enormously popular and we know that the addition of the Channel 4 Paralympics channels will also be another huge hit with Freesat viewers: the perfect conclusion to a brilliant summer of subscription – free sport on Freesat.

I have to agree, the BBC 24 channel coverage has been THE best thing to happen to freesat since its launch. Worked faultlessly on my Sony 5810.

They missed the boat with the Olympics but we’ve discussed that before. It does seem as though word has spread about the availability of those channels on the platform and so it has gone some way to boost sales a bit before the Olympic games commenced.

They will be called Channel4 Para 1, 2 & 3 and will also have channel numbers in the same way the BBC ones did, across DSAT and Cable

Truth! I jjust wish the HD channels hadn’t been broadcast on lower power. I guess C4 will be using the same transponders for the Para’s (?)
Brian DamageQuote
August 18th, 2012 at 9:10 am
Wasn’t aware that they were broadcast on lower power.
Yes, former BBC Olympic on 11.469 H SR 27.500 FEC 2/3 on the Eutelsat 28A satellite has been recently testing Channel 4 Paralympic Streams.
Richard CrichtonQuote
August 18th, 2012 at 10:06 am
Brian, you shouldn’t have an issue receiving any of those BBC Olympics channels, the signal levels are higher than that of most Eutelsat28A transponders and equivalent to most if not all of Sky’s encrypted services (as all Astra 2A and 2B). I suspect your dish is off alignment if your having issues on these. My guess is these HD Paralympic channels will appear on 12304H, not sure yet where the SD versions will be but looks like Sky will be uplinking them.
NeilQuote
August 18th, 2012 at 7:07 pm
Nothing to do with power at all mate.
As Neil said, get your dish checked as a strong winds and so on is all thats needed to knock it off slightly and affect reception. If they were at lower power, then more wouldn’t have them.
ianQuote
August 18th, 2012 at 7:15 pm
They werent – all the Olympics channels were broadcasting at very high powers. Take my word on this – with my satellite hobby equipment I get the relative transmission powers of the different transponders on the display.
If you were having problems its a fault at your end.
RoscoQuote
August 19th, 2012 at 11:01 pm
OK – Thanks everyone!
I guess I and all the other people who had low power reception on the BBC HD Olympics channels (and NOT on any others) need our dishes realigned.
(Potentially true – just not clear on why this ONLY affected the BBC HD channels??)
Anyway, still hoping (and really looking forward) to see the C4 coverage of the Paralympics.
Brian DamageQuote
August 20th, 2012 at 12:01 am
What do you expect from them?
I’m also disgusted, but not surprised at all.
I’m a bit confused about the coverage in the UK at the moment. I expect the same amount of TV coverage and hooha as the main Olympics, but will we get that?
Its about time both games were combined and all athletes were considered equal. No, I know you cant have always Paralympians competing against able bodied atheletes, but combine the two and just run the games over 4 weeks and stop treating the Paralympians as some second class games when in reality their achievements are far more impressive and awe inspiring to watch than the likes of Mr Bolt & co.

I enjoyed seeing Utd lose last night!
The feed was running from mid afternoon and it was intriguing to watch the various pre-match preparation including pundit Steve McManaman doing two versions of his pitchside item – the first assuming van Persie starting, the second if he was going to be on the bench. There were also some quality shots of footwear and an office wall after the game.
