Any news of a HD receiver with PVR functionality yet?

I’d rather wait and spend £200 on one of those than £150 on the humax.

I too have tried Currys and Comet in Crawley…

both have said – we cannot sell this Humax (or any other HD/SD Freesat box) unless you purchase installation with us. I said I have it already because of Sky…

…both replies were ‘It will still cost me £80, just to come and look !’

It seems that a number of branches are telling customers this, which gives the impression that they’ve been told this by head office. We can absolutely confirm that this is not the case, no installation package needs to be taken if you already have a satellite setup in place. It might be worth keeping an eye on our site, waiting for the online sites to put the products up for sale, then buying through that route. Saves the hassle of trying to explain in the store.

Humax say that their PVR version will be available in two months and only through the exclusive outlets mentioned.
Their previous PVR’s have been Which? best buys. So I think I will wait for that.

Couple of quick questions to anyone who has one…
Are you able to view BBC HD & ITV HD using a component cable @ 1080i?
as my TV doesn’t have HDMI.

Also, can you power down the unit at the mains and it still keep the EPG just like Freesat receivers or is it like SKY and forgets everything every time. I like to turn everything off with one BIG switch.

    Thanks

  20. musical pipes Says:

All these questions are answered on the Humax.uk. website Press Release and have been for a few days.
Expected in the shops mid November. It will need a separate feed to each of it’s two tuners. Remember this when you get the quote for a new dish. It is extra on top of the standard installation cost. But well worth every penny as viewing is then free-free-free!

Sky Three is currently an encrypted channel only available to Sky digibox customers with a Sky FTV card, it cannot be accessed on Freesat.

  26. Colin Le Good Says:

Freesat UK channels are presently received in France via Humax digi box. Freesat have just introduced an audio visual support for visually impaired people to help in their understanding of events and make programs more enjoyable. This additional sound track appears on most channels and all films, but not when HD is selected for ITV HD or BBC HD (minimal programs.
All attempts to access this additional audible track via TV manual instructions have failed. TV installation engineer cannot help. Very annoying for sighted people.
    Any suggestions?

    @George Russell

The Freesat spec never included for a RF modulator so you’d need to buy one; such as the Triax Tri-link.
