Currys Freesat Discussed On BBC Radio 4 (You and Yours) Broadcasters Prevent Use of Component
May 29

We thought this was worthy of a mention. Comet have had the forsight to think about the future of Freesat and the soon to be released Freesat DTR/PVR. The new DTR is a digital recorder which to utilise the record functionality to the fullist requires you to have two cables from your satellite dish.

The problem so far is that all the major retailers participating in Freesat have been selling single cable installations, which suit the current SD and HD Freesat boxes only.

What Comet have done is include a Quad LNB instead of a Single LNB and the additional cable required, for just £20 more than the standard install. A small price to pay to future-proof your satellite installation. This will mean when the time comes you literally just have to plug the additional satellite cable into the new DTR box and away you go, rather than paying out for a return engineer visit at significant cost.

FREESAT DTR INSTALLATION TO 1 TV POINT - £99.95

We highly recommend this purchase to anyone requiring satellite installation, even if you don’t fancy a DTR in the future, you may want Freesat in more than one room and this setup will make things much easier.

Well done Comet.

that’ll be the one for me then!
Probably a stupid question, but I’ll ask anyway: “Quad” implies 4 - so why only 2 cables?

  2. Gordon Says:

The quad lnb’s are more common that the dual port lnb’s. Hence cheaper i guess.

Advantage of the quad’s is that you can wire the other 2 ports up to the bedrooms…

Great news, I’ll be going with this option.
When will the DTR be available though. I might wait until I can get my hands on one.

  4. Col Says:

Still the cheapest option… I bought pay once from Sky for £75. When the bloke came to fit it I just asked him if he would fit a quad, a dual cable to the living room and drill a hole through into the bedroom. He didn’t just drill the hole, he also fitted the cable - that’s 3 cables in total.
I was very happy when he had done it all and only asked me for a tenner

This is fantastic, i was going to hold off getting freesat until the PVR came out as i was a little concerned about the previous offerings for the LNB.

Just bought this and a grundig box from comet to do me until the PVR drops a bit in price after a few months release, at least then i only need to replace the box.
