Accessing ITV HD
ITV1 HD is now set-up as an individual channel (119) after a couple of years as a ‘red button’ only service.
The ‘red button’ service is still available for now, which is good news for viewers using a Scottish, Northern Ireland or Channel Islands postcode, as your regions don’t have access to the new HD channel (issues between region and ITV!).
To access ITV1 HD from those regions, just go to channel 977 (ITV London) and press the ‘red button’ on your remote.

So how does ITV HD work when recording a programme?!

I think it’s really stupid how they’re doing this. Like Tim says, you won’t be able to record from ITV HD by a timer because you’d have to be there to press the red button. They should do something like BBC HD and simply be running trailers the rest of the time. Or just turn the channel off when not in use.
Personally, I think the BBC should turn off the whole “run trailers when off air” thing and either open up the space for another channel or have HD programs 24/7.

My receiver is a Kathrein UFS933 (non Freesat). The Kathrein doesn’t have a red button but I can nevertheless add-to or edit the flash memory.
Does anyone out there know the full list of parameters / transponder data required for displaying the ITV HD service from Eurobird 28.5E?

I live in Scotland and just bought the Humax Foxsat HD box. I phoned Freesat because I noticed that ITV HD was not available to STV area. The nice lady said just put in an English postcode which I did. Last night I was tuned to ITV London to watch Law & Order but the HD red button did not work, nor was I prompted for it. BBC HD is great! and so is Lux TV. Am I doing something wrong??

Did you try pressing the red button anyway, or changing channels and returning again, as sometimes it doesn’t show. You don’t need to change postcode however, just go to channel 977 as per the instructions above and try from there when the appropriate programme carrying the HD broadcast is shown.

ITV HD does record in HD from the timer. I recorded the Champions league final and it came out fine – there were a few glitches but they were at the Rome end I assume and it switched back to SD and then to HD after a few moments. When you select to record on Humax it asks if you want HD or SD version so it knows the difference.

Hi
I have just had a Sky+HD box installed and I have tried to get ITVHD by changing the frequency details to 11.427 and polarisation to H. ‘Find Channels’ does not list 10510 or any Freesat channels. How can I add these channels? I have a Style and Culture package.

ITV HD does record, but it would be great if ITV HD could have it’s own channel, like BBC HD. It would be so much easier!

I get so frustrated trying to ever see anything on ITV red button
I swear ITV are not committed to the service
Or my Technisat HDFS dont like it
Today TV guides advertised The Mummy Returns as in HD But the Freesat EPG it was listed as SD – either way No red Button
Tonight “You Me and Dupree” advertised in HD again no red button
I restarted the Techisat from a cold boot – I really dont have the time to do a factory reset to see if ITV are doing its red button thing or its a Technisat issue
Frustrated!

I have a Sony KDL-40W5810 with Freesat. I can get the BBC HD no problem but ITV HD doesn’t work. I press the red button and still nothing! I might as well press the green, blue or yellow buttons because there’s no difference! I do have to go through ITV London because UTV hasn’t signed up to the red button nonsense! All i can say to ITV-HD why have an HD channel that many people can’t watch.

Hi Jim,
I have the same Sony KDL-40W5810 with Freesat TV as you but I am in the Scottish region (STV).
I get ITV HD by going through ITV London (Channel 977). However, sometimes the red button does not appear. I found that I had to press the “digital” button once on the remote control to get out, then press it again to get back in. After a short pause, the red button logo appears in the top right hand corner which allows me to select into ITV1 HD.
I am not sure if this is an ITV HD or Sony TV problem, but I have had to do the above each time for watching e.g. the Champions League, FA Cup, Harry Potter etc… There have also been occasions where the red button logo does not appear at all, particular near the end of programmes.
In contrast, BBC HD is hassle free
Please let us know if you get any joy.
