Currys misleading Freesat installation Freesat official response to availability
May 16

Freesat have today confirmed that availability levels of all Freesat digital boxes remains low, and do not expect a significant change in availability for a few weeks yet.

Since Freesat’s launch on 6th May stocking levels have been incredibly low, with each retail store gaining a handful of boxes a week at most, with only a few hundred available for online purchase. Whilst Freesat claim this is due to ‘high demand’, we believe its more to do with the recall of Alba Group boxes due to software issues; this and the extra strain put on Humax, having the only available Freesat Digibox Box from launch.

It is suggested that there are only a couple of thousand Freesat Digibox Boxes in the country, although Freesat wouldn’t confirm these figures.

In terms of priority, “the big 4″ (Comet, John Lewis, Argos & DSG Group) are taking what little boxes do come through from the manufacturers, with none of the distributors dealing with independents yet to get any substantial numbers.

Rest assured that as and when stock becomes available online, we’ll put the information down the right hand side so you can purchase quickly, before they run out!

Just a thought, but it would be great to see one or two of those voting polls on here. (pulsepoll.com is a quite good).

I for one, would be curious as to how many people are waiting for an HD PVR to be released before jumping in (they say July but who would believe that)?
It would be nice to think that the manufacturers will be watching what’s happening now and make sure they have enough boxes to go round when the PVRs are released.

I, for one, am waiting for a HD PVR but watching what’s going on now with interest. I am in a fortunate position in that I bought a Humax HDCI-2000 about 18 months ago so have been enjoying BBC HD since then, all I reckon I am missing out on at the moment is ITV HD as its Freesat only.

  3. Lee B Says:

I think this is an excellent idea, I know I am waiting for a HD PVR, hopefully it will be as good as the excellent Humax 9200 I have. Fingers crossed they use SATA drives so they can be swapped out cheaply rather than the more expensive and smaller IDE drive sizes.

Might even be a few more channels ready by July….

  4. Gordon Says:

    Polls are a good idea.

I’m waiting for a PVR before i’ll join freesat. For the moment i’ll stick with freesatfromsky as it seems a better service. Once the PVR is out i’ll be getting one :)

  5. Barry S Says:

Same here. I’m waiting for a PVR but only a Humax one and then only if it’s got the same features as a Freeview Playback Group 2 box (series link, autotracking etc).

  6. Tim Says:

Exactly the same here as Barry and others. I’m waiting for a PVR with sky+ like features to be released. My Sky+ ends next month so as soon as a decent quality PVR box is released I’ll jump back in to freesat.

  7. Anne Says:

Me too!!! I’m waiting for a Freesat PVR to use here in Spain.

I suspect, judging by the comments here, that there are a lot of people waiting for the PVR.

  8. adrian Says:

please can some answer a question for me please
can i split my sky lead from my dish to go into the freesat box and using a splitter go to the sky box
or do you get all the free view sky channels on the freesat as well?
i ve heard people getting up to 300 channels on the freesat is that right?

  9. Gordon Says:

You can’t split after the dish… you can only use the skyeye remote control devices.
You ideally need a quad lnb on the dish. That was you can have 2 feeds for the pvr and two for othjer rooms in the house.

    FreesatFromSky has 200 channels

  10. adrian Says:

    thanks gordon
i really want the freesat and hd and hopefully iplayer soon but will loose all the sky free channels not sure what to do i have freeview built in on tv what do you think?

  11. admin Says:

AJW - Poll now up, thanks for your feedback, if you have any other suggestions of poll questions, contact us and we’ll consider them :)

(let us know if you’d prefer the existing poll approached in a different way)

  12. Gordon Says:

Adrian, i got my dish put up yesterday, with the 4 feeds as i told you.
I got a freesatfromsky box so far, and am buying the “sky free for life package” from john lewis for £75. That gives me 4 months free proper sky tv. Hopefully after 4 months the humax HD PVR will be released, then i’ll buy that. Then i’ll have 3 boxes in the house 2 freesatFromSky and 1 Freesat(BBC/ITV).

  13. admin Says:

Don’t forget the £75 deal is available from Dixons with 10% off if you enter discount code SKY10

  14. Gordon Says:

Yeah, i know… but i’ve got lots of JL vouchers as i just got married :)
