ITV HD To Launch With Euro 2008 ITV HD Launches Today
Jun 04

Ever wondered why after signing up to Freesats mailing list for news on the Freesat launch, nothing ever arrived?

Yes, so are we, but atleast now everyone can stop hunting through their inboxes and junk item filters for an email that never arrived, its been found!!!

Digital Spy member “cisco kid” has pointed us all to the email template, found on their website, http://freesat.co.uk/email/may08/email_web_version.html.

We’d still be interested to find out why it never arrived, and what was done with our email addresses, but I guess we’ll never know :)

I dont know what i am doing right, but i sent an E-Mail to freesat and got a reply 2/3 later, they also left a telephone number if I wished to speak to Freesat.
Only problem was that the information they gave me was out of date, when i asked if ITV-HD would be showing Euro 2008, i was told that the latest information from ITV-HD was that ITV-HD would be transmitted “THIS SUMMER “, and i was told “when is summer” that all they had .
Also i asked about the regional transmissions I.E. BBC LONDON, ITV CENTRAL ETC and was told they would be oudate early May - Hune 2008 ???

Never found it’s way into my inbox, it was a big error as far as I can see. I think they should start advertising the service asap.

So, six months on, Firefly’s actions to date have been:

    1. Put up pre-launch website.
    2. Bung out a couple of press releases.
    3. Wait for launch date.
    4. Put up post-launch website.
    5. Er, that’s it.

Maybe they just forgot about the email? Maybe all the money ran out? Maybe they just got bored? Who knows, but one thing’s for sure - Firefly have been less than active. Were it not for this site, I would know nothing about Freesat at all. I reckon only about a couple of thousand people in the whole of the UK do.

I wonder how much they got paid, Cost us around a grand to get ours done. Much more than that and they have been ripped off. Admittedly it isn’t Finished yet but that’s are fault more than the designer. Got A meeting next week then were good to go.

I wouldn’t use firefly to promote are shop leterloan a multimillion pound multimedia platform, they couldnt even send an email!!!! Probably just sold are email to a man that wants to sell you viagra.

i had to post again you gota love this qouat

Freesat managing director Emma Scott said: “We are very impressed with the Firefly team’s experience, their understanding of Freesat’s market environment, and the creativity and innovation they show in their thinking. Together we have a dynamic team which looks set to ensure Freesat makes a major impact in the sector.”

Emma you have got a lot of explaining to do. Freesats market environment are the sort of peaple how post on forums. read the posts and take note, also try digitalspy. Why havnt you reacted allready your freesats managing directer for gods sake. We seem to want it to be a success more than you do.

I urge others to give there opinions in the vane hope they take note.

  8. Bob Says:

I had the email on 3 of my accounts but it was 3 days after the launch day.

  9. Luke Says:

some times when I write I dont what comes over me. I dont want to come across as rood and arrogant. I know I can’t see the hole picture and as for emma I doubt if there is many who want it to succeed more. That said I still think there is room for improvement.

I was more than a little surprised to see even the BBC HD ‘What’s On’ pages don’t list Freesat as a method of receiveing HD broadcasts - seems a big oversight as that surely has to be the main page of contact for people making a consideration of whether BBC HD is worth the switch.

“Freesats market environment are the sort of peaple how post on forums. read the posts and take note, also try digitalspy.”

I don’t think she has explaining to do. I think you need to have a proper think about this comment. Can you qualify this, at all?

The bulk of Freesat’s customers are people who just want digital telly with some extras, not people who post on forums.

I read digital spy, the majority of people there seem to be over-critical early adopters. It’s interesting reading, but I don’t think most of what’s said really stands up in a commercial sense, It’s such a complicated and competitive industry, not as simple as the opinion I read on there makes out

  12. Andy Merrett Says:

The BBC is now running TV “ads” for BBC HD, which makes mention of freesat as one of the ways of receiving the channel.

It’s interesting that there’s virtually no advertising at all around freesat. I wonder if they’d have done more if one of the home nations was in Euro 2008? The World Cup 2006 certainly increased high definition TV sales and Sky subs.

Maybe they’ll do an autumn push?

  13. Rich Says:

I hope they do too, but TV advertising is expensive! My guess is that they’ve cut TV advertising from the budget while they can play off the back of the BBC and ITV HD trails, and plus Panasonic will presumably have quite a heavyweight campaign as well.

Perhaps once this push is over, and Freesat has taken off and has more channels paying the EPG fees, we’ll see some TV advertising from them.
