After many weeks of waiting, Goodmans and Bush Freesat Digital Boxes have now been distributed to Argos for sale online. This includes both versions of each, SD and HD. No indications of how much stock they have, so if you were holding out for one of these rather than the Humax, then get one ordered:
Bush BFSAT01HD Freesat HD Digital Box - £119.99
Bush BFSAT01SD Freesat SD Digital Box - £49.99
Goodmans GFSAT200HD Freesat HD Digital Box - £149.99
Goodmans GFSAT100SD Freesat SD Digital Box - £69.99
Update - It appears that all Freesat Digital Boxes from Humax, Goodmans, Bush and Grundig are all available for purchase online, from Comet, Argos and Currys. Use the column on the right to see how much each digital box is and where to purchase from.

Just picked up a bush box, Argos tried to charge £129.99 but after the sales girl checked the system I paid 119.99. It is now installed and working.

…………and Hounslow and Feltham and everywhere in this area!!!
They have Bush and Goodmans but am I right in thinking that the HUMAX is the best box to buy?

Anne - yes, the Humax is widely beleived to be the better box, although the Bush and Goodmans are new to the market and not yet fully tested. Whilst the Humax remains out of stock in local branches, it can be purchased from Currys online, no doubt for delivery next day. See the right hand column for the link.

I’d say it depends on what you want. If you read other forums or blogs you will find that many believe that not only does the Grundig have the best picture quality especially in SD but is also the easiest to set up and forget. It also has the lnb out which means that you can still have a sky box without having to get an extra cable from the dish. What one person believes is the best might not be the best for you, read reviews from others before making up your mind.

Seems most people are going for the HD, but for what’s it’s worth: I bought the Bush SD £49.99 at Argos this week. It didn’t work. The box just crashed after it did it’s auto tuning. So I returned it for another - same problem. Then rang Bush and spoke to a nice gent who told me to go and get a third. Same problem. So - I bought the Goomans instead. Worked first time.

Col - I though you had to have two cables from the dish if you wanted to use the Sky box as well? How do you connect two boxes with one cable?
I would like to use both Sky and Freesat until all channels are available on Freesat. Am I missing something here? For a non-tech person, would you explain the connections please?

This site:http://bbcfreesathdtvblog.blogspot.com/ has all the advice you need for a daisy-chain setup and it also has reviews of all the boxes.
From an email I received from freesat “…the future HD DTR product has a twin tuner which requires two cables…” “A LNB-out is useful if you want to “daisy-chain” a number of digital boxes, to have your television service on multiple TVs - like a simple “multi-room” arrangement, where the extra box is limited to watching the same channel as the first box in the chain. Please be aware though that some freesat boxes do not have an LNB-out”
As this says, if you have all your boxes on at once, you can only watch the same channel on each. To watch ITVHD, for instance, you would have to switch off all boxes except the freesat one.

Has anybody else had a problem daisy chaining the Bush HD box into a Skybox ? Even with the Bush powered off the Sky box reports no satellite signal and I know it’s not the cable between the boxes as I’ve used a connector to join it directly to the main cable from the dish and fed that direct to the Sky box and it worked fine.

Does this box produce true 720p pictures, or is all HD output upscaled?
I cant’t find the answer to this anywhere.
Thanks

Just plugged in a BFSAT01HD, it auto-downloaded the firmware (1.3.23), scanned for channels (83) and restarted. Problem is the [SCART] option as described in the manual (page 6) to allow a decent RGB single to be sent out instead of Composite is MISSING !!!!!
Anybody know how to enable RGB out this box using 1.3.23? Helpline closes at 6pm {:-(
Thanks

Can anyone tell me when the Freesat HD DTR system will be available? I am sure there must be some indication other than later this year. It is October afterall..

There have been numerous posts about this on the site, there is no confirmed date of release, but is expected to be November.
