We’ve managed to obtain some information from Humax regarding the look and spec of the new HD freesat receiver, due for release from the freesat launch date. The Humax receiver (plus the standard hopefully!) will be available for purchase online from John Lewis soon. The model number is FOXSAT-HD and looks like this:

The look is fairly basic, but for a digital satellite receiver thats normal, but atleast they had the forsight to check that ‘black’ is the latest thing!

  4. Tim Says:

Any indication as to what the ethernet interface will be used for? Could the box play back H.264 material on a PC?

  5. Tom Says:

@ Tim - possibly for VoD services such as iPlayer, but nothing announced as of yet.

  6. Doug Says:

    What about 1080p ?

  7. admin Says:

Doug - no uk broadcaster presently broadcasts in 1080p, only 1080i which is probably the reason for Humax not including within their HD receiver.

  8. Mike Lane Says:

I have a Humax HDC2000 receiver. I can view the BBC HD channel as well as several more in Europe. Will this be able to receive the free to air channels on Freesat?

  9. admin Says:

Mike - Yes, if your receiver has a strong enough signal strength and is receiving channels from Astra2, then it will be suitable for all the freesat channels, unless freesat do introduce any kind of encyption based service to prevent it.
