Humax have today released updates for the Humax FOXSAT-HD to improve a few areas of concern. The update is 1.00.10 and went live this morning. Your hummy will receive the update overnight, or alternatively you can manually update by selecting “automatic update” from the ’setup’ menu.
The update is said to improve the lip-sync issue, as well as screen ratio and picture formats, plus others.
A full list of the updates included can be found here, http://www.humaxdigital.com/freesat/support_software.asp
Do let us know how you get on with the new software, whether it cures the problems you’ve encountered.

Nice. It’s always reassuring when companies bring out software updates – kind of proves that they care.
Just read the the full update list, I’ll have to see if it does actually improve the postcode verification, that is my only real gribe so far.

I’m pleased to see they’re addressing the lip-sync issue, it was only a fraction off but it was noticeable, initially at least
Very happy with my Humax so far generally.

Great improvement! Lip sync is still a little off, but it’s much better than it was. But I’m especially pleased to see the range of picture formats increased - no longer do I need to suffer 4:3 images stretched to 16:9.

After watching the Wimbledon coverage for a while I agree with Dave - it’s improved but still a little bit off - still great to have regular updates as Steve pointed out.

yep Lip sync is still a little off.

Popped home at lunchtime so thought I’d spend a few minutes installing the update. Made no difference to my postcode - BBC1 still thinks I’m in London (I’m in Worcester in the Midlands). Interestingly, ITV picks up the correct region, ITV Central.
Anyone know of a way to resolve this? I don’t really want to sit there guessing postcodes until BBC1 is right, I’ve already tried a Birmingham postcode and that made no difference.

Just watching ITV at 9:44pm (Police, Camera Action) after installing 1.00.10 the box crashed and rebooted twice within 10s of switching to the channel/rebooting the 1st time. After the 2nd reboot it’s remained on. Anyone else encountered the same problem?
June 30th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
@ Steve - I emailed some feedback (ref the update) and I mentioned the regional BBC issue - they replied:
“The software update will not add new channels, this is done by freesat and I believe that [they] plan to include more regional channels over the next few weeks.”
I can see the correct (for me) regional BBC program in the non-freesat mode so hopefully they’ll add it to freesat soon.

when will itv get teletext on freesat
July 1st, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Great to see the new version - but in menu, Diagnosis, signal strength and quality now showing blank (even though receiving signal/channels fine) and still no fix for postcode whereby my postcode is reported back to me with a spurious (and changing) extra character at the end! It only seems to be cosmetic - but been here from the start!
Nothing major though - so great stuff on the whole.

to Be honest, im not very happy at all, i got the humax for HD, and lipsink is still out, (was fine on the original software) its just not good enough, and humax trying to blame it on TV manufacturers is a joke, i am really thinking of taking it back as not fit for purpose, and getting the goodmans box again that i had before i got the humax seing as i will soon be able to get all the FTA channels on that box too. oh and by the way, my £30 BT Vision box has a much better SD picture than the humax
i`m very sad

Unfortunately BBC HD lip sync shows no improvement and HD was the reason for buying Freesat and Humax. Parts of the BBC Preview are virtually unwatchable and even Wimbledon suffers from the audio delay. Great picture - but hardly a good advert for either Freesat or Humax. Word will get round if it is not fixed soon!

Len - Freesat isn’t here to compete with Freeview, its a completely different platform, with completely different services. The point is that Freesat’s main aim is to cover areas of the UK that can’t get Freeview, so the suggestion of a cheaper Freeview box is irrelevant.
Accept that the number of available HD programmes is still poor, but the quality on the whole has been significantly different than that of the SD counterpart. You sure you have connected up using HDMI, and not SCART?
ITV isn’t a channel on Humax or any other Freesat receiver as its an interactive service. Thats ITV’s decision, not the fault of Freesat or Humax.
Hope this information helps you understand a little more.

Can you tell me when regional stations will be up and running, i have on normal channels ITV Yorkshire and BBC Leeds, im fed up with BBC London and ITV Central,

The software update did bring a great improvement, but the lip sync issue is still obviously a major problem. I was initially pleased that it was somewhat improved, but clearly a further update is required to sort it out properly.
Although it’s frustrating, I think we should allow a Freesat and Humax a little bit of slack - after all, the service has really only had a ’soft launch’ so far. If there are still problems with the service by the Autumn, then I guess we’ll have just cause for complaint.
I still think the Foxsat-HD is a great little sat receiver. Actually, it’s like two sat receivers in one: (1) its a Freesat box, and (2) its a standard FTA box with DiSEqC and USALS - all this and HD too!

i downloaded the update for my Humax, lip sync is still out, with the tennis (bbc hd) you see the serve and hear it when the ball gets to the net, poor. As for the sd pic its not as good as the television set it’s self, so all in all disappointed. Has anyone emailed Humax tec, thats a whole different ball game

I have the foxsat-HD receiver for freesat and have been enjoying great pictures on my digital projector through its component connections. Today I updated the foxsat software and after restarting a message came up to tell me that the broadcaster was not allowing me to view HD via this connection! I can now only view the SD channels as my projector does not have an HDMI connector.
Why is this? I cannot be the only person who connects to component sockets. I have seen this method used in most TV shops with Plasma TV’s
I was just preparing for the Wimbledon match of Andy Murray & Rafael Nadal. Now I wishI hadn’t upgraded. Is there anything I can do?
July 2nd, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Martin - you might want to read this, http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/index.php/broadcasters-prevent-use-of-component
July 2nd, 2008 at 6:23 pm
come on humax
sort out the lip sync come on sort it out properly.
July 3rd, 2008 at 11:09 am
martin retune the foxsat to non freeview ie manual tune. the bbd hd channel is on 9645 i beleive but just check them all. doing this bypasses the problem with component. i have to use this method inshop to demo the bbc hd via component
hope this helps :0)

Everyone seems to be banging on about lip-sync being a problem.
What circumstances might one need to use that feature? I’ve seen it on the setup menu but haven’t bothered using it, I presumed it unnecessary for my needs.
Is it to be used if you are running the sound though a surround sound amp (or normal amp for that matter)? I’m using optical to my (fairly old) Sony amp - should I be worried? Everything sounds fine to me…

Fed up with Humax Lip Sync.No change with latest firmware.
I’ve emailed Comets, as I want to change it for a Grundig Box.
Waiting for their reply
July 3rd, 2008 at 3:53 pm
This is a message for Steve
Try watching the tennis on BBC hd and putting your ear to the speaker as the racket hits the ball, you will see what we all mean!
The lip sync adjustment should be on the minimum, though this will not fix the problem.
July 3rd, 2008 at 4:09 pm
emailed Humax re lip sync probs this is part of the email sent back
Some users have reported some lip sync problems on the BBC HD channel. This does not affect all users and we will be investigating to see if improvements can be made on the Foxsat-HD without affecting other users.
We require the make and model of TV set the customers are using and the way the product is connected e.g. HDMI to TV, via an AV receiver, etc.
anyone with a Humax not having sync probs ?

This update is a disaster - prior to the update, the box was rock solid and never crashed. Lipsync was a minor issue.
Lipsync is now worse than ever - Wimbledon HD was unwatchable. The box now repeatedly locks up. I returned home from a trip and the box told me that the signal had failed - only a power off / power on would resolve the issue.
I think that Humax must have changed far more than they say - it looks like the front-end firmware has been changed - and is now broken. I also suspect that they have fiddled with the demux to try to correct the lipsync issue. This probably leads to the box crash.
I say all this with more than 15 years experience of biulding and implementing this sort of product.
I am going to return my box and get one of the Pixsan boxes instead - at least their team is UK based and is working hard to correct the real problems.

got the humax foxsat HD receiver installed today. I have read plenty of comments about the lyp-sync problems so as soon as it was all tuned in and set up i went to the BBC HD channel and low and behold even after the latest firmware update the lyp-sync is all over the show which is realy annoying.I have already emailed Humax asking when/if they intend to fix this not acceptable problem.I will let any feedback recieved known on the forum.

Heres what they had to say.
We are currently investigating the lip-sync issue that some users are reporting and intend to release a software update with the necessary changes so that the issue can be resolved for all of those that are experiencing it.
Lets hope they honour this SOON

Returned Humax box to Comets.
After original phone call I thought it was going to be a problem changing box, as they said that the LIP SYNC problem was caused by the Windy weather!!
So I went to shop with printouts from this website, digispy and an email from Humax. They didn’t either bother testing box, as they saw I was ready to argue, and I went home with a Grundig.
Menu system has limits compared with Humax. Can’t change aspect to 14:9 for 4:3 pics. But Lip Sync problem cured, and I’ll put up with any lack of features to have got this right!
July 6th, 2008 at 10:32 am
Well if Humax cant fix this obvious lyp-sync software issue where does that leave all of us owners then? They say that they are trying to resolve it but they got to pull there finger out in my opinion sooner rather than later or i and i can imagine many more will be taking them back and getting a altrnative and lets not forget how quickly the word spreads could potentialy be a disaster for humax.
July 6th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Went and got a Humax this morning from Currys, not very impressed with the lipsync. Think it will be on its way back tomorrow

anybody with a humax hd freesat receiver n ot experiencing delayed audio?
July 7th, 2008 at 10:20 am
Had Humax installed on Friday. Lipsync poor on Wimbledon Live Broadcasts but no problem on Preview or other programmes such as Green Green Grass and the Dan Cruickshank Adventures in Architechture. Could it be that the BBC Live broadcasts are an issue?
July 8th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
ive had humax foxsat installed since inception and never had any problems with lip synch untill firmware 1.00.10 was installed.now bbc hd is allways out of synch and basicly unwatchable.i am not a happy camper!

As a new owner of a Humax HD box I have a question.
Are the LED’s on the front of the box subject to a problem?
I notice that they do not work correctly.
Standby is red until until it is turned on and then the same light turns green, no tv light illuminates. Then if you switch to Radio the tv light comes on green. The radio light never works at all.
Is this a known issue or a new one.
PS just contacted Humax, they say they are aware of it and it will also be fixed in a future update.
