Freesat has reached an agreement with Retra, the trade association for electrical retailers, to allow the sale of Freesat equipment through independant retailers.
It was initially beleived that a 6 month exclusive deal had been agreed with Comet, John Lewis, Argos and the DSG Group.
“Needless to say we are delighted that this agreement has been reached” said Bryan Lovewell, chief executive of Retra. “With 2008 predicted to be a challenging year, new products such as Freesat can only help independent retailers increase footfall and profits. What Freesat must do now is work to ensure independent retailers have access to timely information and support in order to effectively sell the service.”
We are unclear on whether this agreement will commence from the launch of Freesat on the 6th May, but its certainly good news, allowing consumers to have more choice on where to purchase from.

Release of information leaves much to be desired -as does spelling accuracy on the website!
