  1. Denis Says:

Very useful info. Sky clearly do not have the control that we thought they did. We should support Freesat and accept the problems along the way. In the end this is going to be the mainstay of TV broadcasting in the UK.

  2. Davei Says:

A very interesting piece, and very useful for disentangling/simplifying some of the (arguable) controversy surrounding Freesat’s relationship with Sky. However, the article seems to include quite a bit that is really little more than speculation - but this is made pretty clear in the text.

  3. Steven Says:

Thank you Nigel Whitfield, well done, a clear, competent and concise article for the layman and also for those more technical.

I’m uncertain where my particular ‘technical’ expertise lies but is an informative and interesting read.

    Many thanks . .

freesat will be getting setanta sports 1 by december and there is a rumour about an mtv caannel deal

  5. Al Says:

If they prove to be true, I like your rumours Neil.

  6. Glen McFarlane Says:

Nice rumours but absolutely not gonna happen with Setanta Sports 1. Absolutely not. No way.

  7. Denis Says:

I think it will be more likely to be Setanta sports news which is currently on Sky “freesat”. No way will it be Setanta Sports 1.If true how does anyone think it can possibly be funded???

  8. Al Says:

I suppose they could possibly offer a cut down version of 1 funded by advertising Denis. This would still keep subscribers who wanted every Premiership match on Sky, but perhaps attract those who only want the a few Premiership matchs with England etc on Freesat.

  9. Denis Says:

Do you not think there may have been some confusion and that it will be Sentanta Sports News.

  10. Les Nicol Says:

FreeSat is what it say’s it is “Free”, but I then wonder what the purpose of having a universal CAM slot in LCD tv’s is for? Surely this has to be about viewer choice when it comes to Pay per View TV ( as it is the rest of Europe) rather than Pay per View TV being exclusively tied to VideoCrypt Encryption and a Sky Digibox.

  11. Al Says:

TBH I don’t know Denis. I’d like to think we might get some form of Setanta 1 in maybe a cut down form funded by advertising but that may well be just wishful thinking. I really couldn’t 2nd guess what they’re actually going to do. If I had to put money on it, I’d say Sports News was a better bet.

  12. Steven Says:

I don’t remember Setanta Sports being mentioned in the original ‘Personal Computer World’ article?!

    Where are we going?
