ITV-HDITVHD has not been officially launched yet, but its common knowledge that they have been running the channel for some days, and whilst it can be accessed on an PC with the correct decoder, its not been available to anyone with a Freesat HD Digital Box.

However, thats now changed thanks to someone stumbling across a remote code combination which brings the channel up in all its HD glory (or atleast when they are showing a HD prog, and not just upscaled SD).

To view, simply go to ITV (channel 103) and press on your remote the following:

RED
RED
GREEN
GREEN
BLUE

You will of course need a HD Freesat box such as the Humax FOXSAT-HD.

The Champions League Final last night looked fantastic in crystal HD.

do we know if F1 will be in HD.

  2. luke Says:

I’ve heard that it won’t be in HD yet as itv have to pay extra for the rights to do so. But we will have to wait and see. I love these kind of hacks I’ll have a go when I get in.

  3. Samuel Says:

    kool I will try that.

o and I E-mailed Setanta asking them if I could subscribe to them, they sent me this, but I’m confused by what they mean.

    “Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your e-mail. I can confirm you will be able to receive Setanta Sports on the Freesat platform, providing you can supply us with a viewing card number. This may be built-in to the box itself, and can be found by navigating the systems menu.

For more detailed information on your system’s menu, please refer to the user manual. You can call our sales team on 08712 00 33 22 if you wish to subscribe.

Our lines are open from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week.

    Yours faithfully

  4. Rufin Says:

Samuel: They are probably confusing Freesat from Sky with the new Freesat platform by BBC/ITV. As I understand, Setanta can only be viewed through a skybox which is not at all compatible with the new Freesat.

  5. Samuel Says:

    I see

  6. Chris Says:

im getting my hd box tommorow how annoying 2 days too late for the champions league o well always euro 2008

  7. Trevor Says:

I was interested in ITV HD to provided better pictures even if they were upscaled SD. But looking through the ITV schedual for next week there is only one program that I would watch and that is F1. It’s a bit difficult justifying £150 for 1 program.

It is becoming clear that ITV does not have any clear plan for ITV HD which reflects the poor quality of management with which ITV has been suffering with for years. We still have no definite start date and very little idea of content. ITV does not want to give us HD because of the extra cost but they are also afraid that as people get more and more use to HD they will loose market share.

  8. Colebox Says:

Trevor; where I agree with the ITV management issue wouldn’t it make more sense for the ITV to move to HD as quickly as possible as HD could keep them, and the other ‘big’ stations, ahead of the smaller freeview/satellite stations? i.e. HD stations would stand out as superior viewing.

  9. Tim (Hull) Says:

This looks promising (if true ofcourse):-

    http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2007/05/13/f1-will-get-hd-coverage-this-year/

“Bernie Ecclestone has finally confirmed that F1 fans will be able to watch the sport in high definition later this year.

It is not clear whether or when ITV will be able to broadcast the HD feed for UK viewers, but ITV Sport did acquire the necessary equipment earlier this year.

Global satellite broadcasting company SISLink was due to bring a HD-ready broadcasting truck to this weekend’s round at Barcelona. Now Ecclestone has revealed that HD broadcasts will be available to viewers later in 2007.”

  10. Tim (Hull) Says:

A nice insight into the poor old fella’s confusion about HD technology (Bernie not realising 10million + HDsets are out there gagging for content):-

“The trouble with High Definition is that there are not many people who have got the equipment to receive it, so there is not much point. We are really broadcasting for the big screen now, rather than worrying about HD.”

  11. Ster Says:

Argos now have Bush HD boxes in stock!

  12. Colebox Says:

By the way all; I tried the remote control combination to get ITV HD and it didn’t work.

  13. Al Says:

I think Tim that the all the tv channel controllers have also had the same problem in believing there was a demand (in my opinion).

It seems that no-one has realised that the UK is already falling behind other countries for HD rollout and that the demand for a total HD service is already here and has been for some time.

The rate its going other countries will have Super HI Vision (8K x 4K) before we even have a full HD 720P service rolled out!

Also, of the friends I know without HD sets, they say they are waiting for TV to go fully HD before they’re prepared to spend the money and switch. I think there’s some worry about spending the money without proof of its worth and longetivity I think.

So just putting aside the 10 million HD or HD ready sets already sold in the UK, the TV controllers are waiting for the remaining public to buy HD sets and the public are waiting for the TV controllers to provide a full schedule of HD before buying new sets………………….I’m sure you can see where this is going!

  14. admin Says:

Colebox – it appears that Freesat got wise and have disabled it again. Either that or you must wait for a HD programme to match the SD programme to be on, at the moment there is none scheduled.

  15. Tim (Hull) Says:

@ Al – I take your point readily – it’s chicken an egg.

  16. mick Says:

brilliant f1 on itv hd today saturday, hopefully on race tomorrow.

  17. SPV4U Says:

I wondering if the test is so that ITV can go HD for the euro 2008 football? BBC will prob broadcast in HD so ITV will want to compete, i suspect.

  18. lib Says:

mick hi was the F1 in hd then

  19. Simon Says:

Mick – How did you get F1 in HD then? Just bought a FoxSat box and disappointed that the only HD content is BBC and that is limited to say the least!

Any tips / workarounds gratefully received!!

  20. Ian O Says:

Can anyone verify this RRGGB code?
I tried it last night on my Humax HD receiver and it appeared to have no effect.

  21. Nathanael Adams Says:

    Simon, Lib;

According to AVForums and DigitalSpy, last wkend’s GrandPrix was not broadcast in HD. I’m looking forward to it being broacast in HD, though!

    Ian O;

As far as I’m aware this code only works for the Official Freesat HD receivers, and not other FTA receivers. I also tried the code on my Pace DS810XE, but it didn’t work, either.

  22. lib Says:

I tried the remote control combination to get ITV HD and it didn’t work.

  23. lib Says:

do we know when itv hd starts

  24. dave hughes Says:

    when will this all stabilize.
have £2000 television, do i invest in HD freesat receiver as i have no interest in sky’s output, or do i buy a blu-ray player to see better viewed dvds.
    (1) buy hd free-sat box
    (2) buy blu-ray
they are about the same price.
so which one gives better value.
(think on the bbc has limited number of HD broadcasts.

  25. Suss Gough Says:

we have freeview and freesat the olympics were worth the cost alone in HD you could have been in the stadium – if you watch a lot of dvds – go for bluray – but i was more than happy to give up sky and get the occasional rental dvd – just having a good hd tv makes it better than being at the movies anyway

  26. nick Powell Says:

will ITV HD beavailable on skyHd boxes
