Thanks to digitalspy member ‘mitsubishi’ the following channels seem to have appeared in the data stream ready for inclusion on the Freesat EPG. They include:
- BET
- Information TV
- Kix!
- Simply Shopping
- Zone Horror +1
- Celebrity Shop
We don’t have any official confirmation on these channels at the moment, but some detective work by another digitalspy member ‘Strathclyde’ would suggest a 8th August launch, as Information TV’s website states:
We’re launching on FREESAT Friday 8th August ! Channel 406

Is there anyway I can STOP myself from getting these channels? I’d rather not have this tat clogging up my EPG.

I presume you can just delete them.

FREEsat. FREE channels. Get it? So what if you don’t watch them, it’s hardly worth worrying about deleting them. You’ll never run out of channel numbers (more than 9999 channels, I don’t think so), just chill, it’s nice that they are making the effort.

Zone Horror +1 might come in handy while we sit around waiting for the much promised PVR. Any more news about C5, I thought the announcement was imminent.

I wonder what channels people are expecting to see on Freesat. Most of the channels of any worth are already there, with the exception of Five. The rest are shopping and dating guff.

Glen - Exactly this is what I ahve been saying all along. If we could have 4HD then that would be a good move. Apart from that I am quite happy with the current line up.

hmm this is the best channel outa that 8.
Kix!. The channel shows a mixture of cartoons, extreme sports and music videos.

The channel is called Kix!, but is realy for 10-15 year olds, I just want the music.

From what stations I’ve seen from the non-freesat mode, the only ones I’m looking forward to on freesat are CNN, Bloomberg, Luxe HD and NME TV. Obviously 5 and 4HD would be even better. By the way Steve, did you know that all these stations are free? But if you don’t like them you can delete them, even if they are free. Delete them. Geddit?

I have CNN, Bloomberg and Luxe HD on my Goodman HD box. I carried out a manual scan. Easy. Luxe HD is a great example of the quality of picture that can be obtained in HD. It is not a station you would watch for long periods but it is great as a demo.

I have them too Denis, but I (like everyone) have to switch to non-freesat mode to get them. I was saying that they were the only channels that I was looking forward to appearing on the Freesat EPG.
As I understand it, new channels to freesat come from the following sources:
1) FTA stations that can be found already in non-freesat mode by manual tuning
2) Stations which are no-longer contracted to Sky and so can become FTA
3) Totally new FTA stations that haven’t been launched yet.

The channels have just been confirmed by Freesat’s PR agency Borkowski.

Am disapointed with freesat the channels are very limited no history or documentarys etc am considering going back to sky I dont mind paying a small subscibtion for some decent programs

Dave - I am surprised by your comment on choice of channels. It was very clear from the beginning that this was a free service and was bound to be similar to Freeview with the addition of HD channels as they come on stream.
I cannot understand these people that are grumbling about Freesat. These so called history or doc channels are mostly showing old programmes that have been on the main channels some time ago. The best programmes currently are available on the Freesat platform (apart from 5).
I think some users of Freesat are expecting something that does’nt actually exist yet. As I have said before this is FREESAT not FEESAT!!!

When are we going to get real channels worth watching instead of more crappy shop till you drop rubbish….oh and dose any one know when BBC HD channel goes 24-7 instead of previews of what might be, is 5 u.s in the pipe line ? can anyone help…………
August 8th, 2008 at 11:13 am
Vince - This is Freesat not Feesat. If you want more you should have gone to Sky. I think what we are getting is pretty good. Just need 5 and 4HD and I would be more than happy.
August 9th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Freesat promised much more and it seems we wont see 24-7 HD channel until 2010, even then you will only be getting 8 hours as the BBC has now changed its stance on HD broadcast. As for channel 4 HD, forget it.(you need sky for that) what with the problems with the freesat hardware and the poor choice of channels i would stick with freeview, at least until all these bugs are sorted.
August 15th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Vince - I think you are expecting too much for a fledgling service. Sky has been aroubd for 15 years and Freesat for 3 months. Patience and realism is what is needed.
