What Hifi Panasonic Freesat Plasma Review

What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision have today reviewed the up coming Panasonic plasma with Freesat in-built (IDTV). They concentrated the review on the 46in and gave it full marks, with special mention for good quality SD and HD picture, value for money, plus of course the usual stuff that Panasonic are so good at.

The review can be read in full on their website here.

Don’t forget the 46in, aswell as the 42in will be available for sale this month from Flattelly, with the 50in due next month. If your looking for a new plasma, this might be the perfect solution.

ARE WE SCRAPING THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL?
NOT MUCH NEWS FROM THE KEY PLAYERS FROM FREESAT
    ANY NEWS OF IPLAYER?
    NEW CHANNELS?
    SOFTWARE UPDATES?
    NEW HD CHANNELS?
    ANYTHING AT ALL???????/

adrian - nothing at all, Freesat see this blog and certain forums as important to their success, yet getting any information out of them is just as hard as if you contacted them yourself. We’ll get in touch with Freesat’s PR again tomorrow, see if they are willing to talk!

With the greatest respect to Freesat, they’re not doing a good job at the moment in my opinion. Until launch I was one of Freesat’s biggest fans / unofficial promoters around the web.

However, this has since changed because of:

    a) Lack of Advertising - I hate to see a potentially good service just slip by unnoticed by the majority through something as basic as a lack of advertising, especially when the BBC own their own damn channel to put them on for free anyway! Same can be said of ITV as well. Why can’t they give themselves advertising space? If they take a single 1 hour program off the schedule daily they’ll free up enough space to advertise Freesat without having to lose any commercial advertising from the schedule. Sky must be laughing their socks off at the lack of competition in my opinion.

    b) Lack of Progression with HD programming / channels - why is HD still on mainly adverts - in fact why are many SD channels still on adverts until the evening even on Freeview? BBC 4 starts at 7pm to give just one example.

    How about a full schedule?

Where are the rest of the HD channels?

2 channels isn’t going to satsify most and Freesat’s major selling point now (whether intentional or not) is free HD.

In fact even matching Freeview’s proposed 4 HD 2009 channels isn’t going to satisfy most. HD is here now with 10 million UK sets and rising and whereas there maybe reasons for continuing to broadcast SD, the public wanta full schedule of quality HD content and we want it now!!

  4. Al Says:

Asking us to continue to watch SD on HD sets is like asking SD owners to watch black and white 1960’s Bill and Ben type programs with a couple of modern colour programs thrown in for good measure.
