  1. Glen Says:

Is anyone else desperately hoping for some new decent channels?! Freesat seems to have become just another place for all those channels on sky which no one watches and skips very quickly past! When are we going to be getting Channel 5 / C4 HD / anything worth watching?!

  2. admin Says:

Freesat will continue to add these type of channels, as they are FTA and wish for inclusion on the Freesat EPG in the same way as the Sky EPG.

Channel Five is due soon, C4 HD is still an unknown!

  3. Keith Ashman Says:

Wowee. Can’t wait to delete it.

  4. Kevin Says:

At least these channels no-one watches help pay for the platform.

  5. Georgie Fruit Says:

Super. Something other than Lazy Town to get addicted to.

  6. Mark (North Wales) Says:

I am getting fed up with these awfull channels, seriously considering getting Sky+HD for £75.

  7. Kevin McMulkin Says:

How does no one expect these type of channels to launch. They may not be viewed by many as ‘good entertainment’ but they make the platform more diverse and appealing (to others). They aren’t stopping other better channels from launching in the future because unlike Freeview capacity isn’t an issue with satellite, so why complain?

These type of launches should be known as ‘Indifferent Launches’. It doesn’t matter if they are there or not.

  8. timmy Says:

lm just waiting for sky+hd to drop the £10 extra. one day maybe.

  9. Barry Says:

Mark, are you also happy to pay £312.00 per year to subscribe to Sky channels and a further £120.00per year for HD?

  10. digital Says:

Mark, they may be awful channels but you don’t have to watch them. Ignore them and enjoy the thought that they’re helping fund the platform.

As for spending £75 on Sky, I think you’ll find there’s quite a bit of dross on there too!

  11. Denis Says:

Hold on ! I thought when Freesat launched in May it was going to be getting on for 12 months before it was up to over 200 channels. Patience is not a quality that is found very often these days.

As regards HD channels it was only ever likely that 4HD would be added to BBC and ITV. Others HD channels may appear in the long term but as with most patient Freesat viewers I am being realistic after all this is a free service.

We are also a nation of collectors in this case collect as many channels as we can. Even then we are constantly looking for when the next channel will be added without stopping to enjoy what we have already got. We all do it with DVDs CDs etc etc.

This HD thing really can be a bit overated. Yes a HD programmes with good quality content are great to watch. However a poor quality programme in HD is still a poor quality programme. I for one find plenty of good quality programmes to watch on the present Freesat channels both in SD and HD. If the quality of the content is good enough then SD or HD becomes a very secondary consideration.

Don’t get me wrong I enjoy HD viewing but I am not that hung up on it that I cannot enjoy other non HD programes. For those that want to help furnish Mr Murdochs lifestyle in luxary then thats up to them. I for one will not be joining them!!!

  12. Al Says:

I’m looking forward to the day when we have 4HD and 5HD, not least of which because 5 is now by far one of the best channels!!!

(Never thought I’d be saying that a year or two ago!)

As an aside (slightly off topic), anyone else getting really p*ssed off with the new CH5 dog? Last night during Neighbours and Home and Away it appeared and was really solid – totally opaque at 1 point, probably a mistake as became partially transparent later), but the whole “Five” writing seemed totally opaque the whole time.

Like many, I don’t want logos telling me what channel I’m on and I certainly don’t want solid intrusive ones that detract from the viewing / and / or threaten the phosphors on my tv / tvs of others.

  13. Paul Says:

Regarding new channels, apart from the missing channel 5 are there really any good channels missing ?

I know its all personal preference but apart from 1,2,3,4 and 5 the rest are mostly minority channels for minority audiences.

It would be nice to get a sports channel or a channel showing film premiers, but unfortunately that is extremely unlikely on a FTA service.

I am currently a sky subscriber (for my sins) and i can honestly say that 99% of the channel output is utter rubbish.

  14. YASAR Says:

    NO MORE SPAM CHANNELS PLEASE!
    WE WANT CH5, CH4HD AND CH5HD AND 5 DERIVATIVES SUCH AS 5US.

  15. zag Says:

What a poor choice of channel, there should be no place for gambling on peoples televisions, it can ruin a lot of peoples lives.

Keep it to the casinos please where it can be properly regulated.

  16. johnboy Says:

Totally agree with Zag, another `channel` whose only aim is to
extract money out of people, most of whom can`t afford it,
    Get rid of these parasitites

  17. Michael Says:

I agree with some of the previous sentiments that perhaps we are getting too hung up on the lack of HD content at the moment. I purchased a Panasonic 37LXD800 last week and the SD quality through the Humax Foxsat box is stunning and difficult to discern between this and some of the BBC HD programming.

Of course the star of HD are the natural history documentaries. If you look closely at the credits most of these are jointly produced with National Geographic. A lot of the programming sources for the Sky HD channels has already been aired on terrestrial TV. Why pay £10/month to watch mainly repeats?

  18. Mark (North Wales) Says:

Yes Barry I am, if it means I get to watch HD, as much as I love BBC HD, I am very disappointed with ITV HD and getting fed up waiting for Channel 4 HD to make an appearance. Afraid my free sat HD receiver is going to be moved to bedroom. I very much believed in the ethos behind free sat but, its true what they say if you want quality you have to pay for it and Sky has the best choice of HD content available in the UK.
I purchased the Bush Free Sat HD because I want to watch HD programming, otherwise I could have saved myself £70 and got the Standard Def version. If you like home shopping and like to gamble your life away then stick with free sat, but its going to be a long time before any new quality channels appear, in my opinion!

  19. Paul Says:

As with most things you get what you pay for. Sky HD with a premium channel is well over £500 a year. If you watch a lot of TV then it may be worth it, but if your TV viewing is just a few hours a week then freesat is much better value.

And it doesn’t matter how many channels are available, you can only watch one at once.

  20. Lee B Says:

Michael, nice TV but if SD & HD material look the same on your TV something must have been set up wrong, using a HDMI lead I hope?. I have a Sony W2000 40″ and the difference between SD and HD material is massive.

Fingers crossed for 4HD soon, and a dedicated ITV HD channel (I know I’m dreaming!).

  21. Michael Says:

    Lee

Yes am using an HDMI lead. I didn’t actually say SD & HD looked the same I said it was difficult to differentiate between some of the programming. A common fault with some people is they buy too large a set for their room and/or sit too close!

  22. Steven Says:

But don’t forget.. HDMI means.. High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of digital copy protection developed by Intel Corporation to prevent copying of digital audio and video content…

    Big Brother . .

  23. Llew M Says:

I know these channels are just rubbish but at least they’re free. I was with Sky and all their pay channels are crap too , a waste of money.Give them time in the long run better chammels may well come on board too. But I quite like Men and Motors and the Zone channels and some of the music channels too. Some of the music channels are just as good as MTV and VH1. But yes I would hope that there will be some documentary channels coming on eventually.

  24. taffy boy Says:

Like all the pay channels on Sky like GOLD how many times have they shown fools and hoses or fawlty towers and not just gold but all the other pay channels too. a waste of money.

  25. Bob Says:

I think some people on here are expecting a few unknown free channels to suddenly appear from nowhere; showing live Premier football, new Attenborough quality documentaries and the very latest Hollywood movies. Sadly just not going to happen. Ofcom already documented in a report why not. Pay for $ky.

  26. Paul Says:

Yes pay for sky and still get a load of rubbish !!!

  27. Papi Says:

casino on tv can be good, but not this one :(
