Dec 08

Following on from our Humax PVR’s Stolen story it’s believed that the police have recovered a number of PVR’s matching the serials of those stolen in the early hours of Monday 1st December 2008.

Humax have officially said;

We can confirm that 50% of the units that were stolen have been recovered, which are in working order and in the process of being shipped to retailers. However, there is still a significant number of units that have still not been found.

It’s believed, although not confirmed that a company in Leeds had been trying to sell on a large quantity of the units which alerted suspicions that the police acted upon.

There are still a large number missing, so if you notice any questionable sales, i.e. bulk quantities, too cheap etc do contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, or Humax on 020 8326 6000.

Dec 02

It is believed that a lorry full of Humax PVR’s were stolen in the early hours of Monday morning.

The robbery took place between 1am - 2am on Monday morning (1st December 2008) in a notorious lorry theft hot-spot in a lay-by close to the Hilton Hotel on the A45 at Collingtree.

The Polish lorry driver was said to have been woken by possibly three men who smashed their way into the cabin, tied up the driver and then drove the lorry towards Roade on the A508 where they unloaded the PVR’s into another vehicle.

This will naturally have an impact on the distribution and availability of what is a very sought after product.

Given the lack of availability, if anyone notices large volumes of this product being sold, whether that be on ebay, or by other means, please get in touch with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Update (03-Dec-08)

Official response from Humax we had been waiting on:

Humax has confirmed that a shipment of FOXSAT-HDR Freesat+ boxes was stolen at the weekend, upon their arrival in the UK on 30th November. The matter is already under investigation by the police, who are looking to track the stolen goods via individual serial numbers which have been recorded by Humax.

Humax is urging any retailers who are offered quantities of the FOXSAT-HDR from unknown sources or under suspicious circumstances to notify Humax head office immediately, by calling 020 8326 6000. The theft will temporarily impact the supply of FOXSAT-HDR boxes to retailers across the UK, however additional shipments are due later this week.

We wanted an official response from Humax in relation to suggestions that only 500 units had been made available, and all to Argos.

Humax have kindly taken the time to respond during a very busy period with the following statement:

The first batch of FOXSAT-HDRs went on sale at selected retailers from 22nd November and a second shipment will be delivered to both major multiple and key independent retailers this week. Demand for the FOXSAT-HDR is incredibly high but production is ramping up and we have scheduled deliveries of the FOXSAT-HDR to retailers throughout December, to ensure higher volume shipments reach stores in the run up to Christmas

This should help clear the situation and no doubt many are looking forward to being able to purchase a Humax FOXSAT-HDR in the next few weeks.

Nov 25

As I’m sure most of you are aware, the Humax PVR launched on the weekend yet obtaining stock is proving difficult for most.

There has been suggestion that only 500 boxes have so far been distributed, all to Argos. Although we cannot confirm whether this is true or not, this certainly seems possible given the supply has all come from them so far.

We are hoping for an official response from either Freesat or Humax on the present situation, which is no doubt frustrating for all looking to buy or supply. Humax have quickly pointed out though that their official launch did state…

Stock will be arriving in stores throughout December to increase distribution across the UK.

…but is that enough, was that clear enough to you that the product would be so hard to find initially?

So where does the fault lie? If anywhere! Do you feel that Humax should have produced more boxes initially, should the release date have been delayed until distributors and retailers had stock, what are your thoughts?

(Please note that we are by no means accusing Humax for the shortage, just wishing to enter into a healthy debate on the why’s and the how’s)
