Really appreciate the work put into this site over the past year. It helped me make my decision to move to Freesat and kept me informed about products and Freesat changes. Lets hope we see some more interesting channels join Freesat in 2010, keeping my fingers crossed that some will move over after their current contract with Sky is up for renewal (SciFi would be best!).

@Glyn Smith
It isn’t likely that there will be more new posts in the next week as the major players in the industry are all on holiday so news will be limited. Naturally if anything comes up that can’t wait, we’ll publish, but we need a break too

I purchased the Humax PVR this time last year and have never looked back. Thanks for the free service it has satisfied all our needs. We were with virgin and and by switching to freesat have almost paid back all of costs for the box and installation.

Thank you very much for all the information you provide on JoinFreesat plus all the comments & tips from posters.
Some seem very quick to moan & don’t seem to realise Freesat is exactly that, FREE, so should not expect everthing pay TV provides. I
think the service is excellent, especially now with BBC iplayer. I’m really looking forward to future enhancements such as ITV player & more HD if & when they arrive.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all!

Merry Christmas! Very helpful site: thanks to all concerned and the clever people at BBC for bringing us iplayer. Watched Spooks last night and was very impressed with quality (albeit on a 20in screen). Have 3 Humax boxes so this is great news!
Have Sky HD too – the picture’s great, content average to poor, hardware rubbish. If Freesat improves content (quality not quantity) just a bit it will be a real winner.

@11 Ian Tindale.
That would logical since all new large screen televisions are HD capable. All channels should be HD. Don’t see any broadcasters still using 405 lines or black and white!!!!!

Thanks for all the tips and information on FreeSat and a merry Christmas ‘JoinFreesat’.
PS. I took home a ten metre cat5 patch lead to try out BBC iPlayer last night and it was very good, particularly in High Quality, standard was a little soft on my 42 inch screen. I’ll have to run this cable under the floor next year for a full time fix. It ran very well I’m on 2 to 3MB broadband, but I share that with two daughters on wirless and my son with his Xbox 360 wireless, oh and my wife and I are hardwired to the router from our PC.

If your going to guess the next free HD channel on freesat my moneys on
QVC HD. It makes so much money and in HD, what a way to display your goods. Sky news is going HD in 2010, but will they scramble their HD feed.
This is a great site, look at it every day to see what every ones moaning about
or not. Had my humax hdr for a year now.and its fine. every night theres something in HD from either ITV HD or BBC HD.
PS is your hard disk all ways full.
happy christmas every one.

All the best to everyone at joinfreesat, I purchased a Panasonic Bluray PVR with Freesat before the Digital Switchover in the North West of England back in November and haven’t looked back. I’m to purchase two new Panasonic Freesat enabled HD TV’s over the next week too to replace my existing, now defunct, analogue sets. Freesat offers better bitrates than equivalent Freeview channels so SD picture quality looks better which is what is important for me. Reviews of Freesat enabled TV’s seem to agree with this too.
Lets hope C4HD makes it on to the platform in the coming year, I have a fair amount of confidence that they will dependant on when SES can free up some space on 2D at 28.2E. I’m also confident that the platform will grow further in the coming year as it’s now getting more and more commercial exposure.
This site is great for keeping up with news on EPG additions + new channels and features for the platform, I have the RSS feed bookmarked!
Keep up the good work.

Just make sure before you start.

You have the Ethernet cable connected to your Humax.

Terrence; QVC in HD? I doubt it they don’t even transmit in HD on Sky and Virgin. My guess would be CH4 HD or maybe ITV will finally launch a dedicated HD channel. I would say any new HD channel would be a channel that already transmit in SD on Freesat, unless they launch in SD and HD on Freesat at the same time in which case Lux TV would be a candidate.
As for any other new channels in 2010, Fiver, Five USA, Virgin 1 and Dave would all be welcome.

Hi and all the best for your new year!
Just joined ‘Freesat crew’ with my Humax HD. Finding the picture quality fantastic – no problems what so ever.
However I have been shocked that Five, FiveUS, Dave, not available right now.
Is there anything I can do to so as to get channel information\details in the display bar at the bottom of screen when the ‘i’ button is pressed?
