Following the launch of the Humax HDR-1000S Freesat+HD <free time> receiver there has been an extensive number of bugs/glitches reported which Humax/freesat have been working on.
Humax have today announced that the first revision of the software (version 1.00.16) has been released and will update all HDR-1000S receivers left in standby (usually over-night) or alternatively right now if you manually update via the system settings menu (press Home, Settings, System settings, Software update and Search new software).
The software update includes a few fixes to the receiver as well as the <free time> service. We are waiting on confirmation of the fixes that have been included.

Wow.
They got that release out fast then.
Kudos to Humax for it

Demand 5 does not allow you to watch some programms after they have been shown for eg. The Gadget show. Will you be able to watch one of these shows after they have been broadcast on Freetime.

Fixes
This is great news for anyone keen on Freesat or generally pleased with Humax kit.
However, whilst, if working correctly and under ideal conditions, the HDR-1000s seems a lovely bit of kit, in reality it would appear to be mostly form-over-function. The much-vaunted Freetime VOD feature is great in theory (and pretty), but in practice, with the possible exception of BBC content, there are likely to be few things available and so the guide will always be very sparsely populated. Until recently, certainly, 4OD and Demand5 contained no foreign (especially American) content. Since 5USA and 5* are largely US content, we’re just left with mainly soaps and reality shows – fine if that’s your thing. Thus the HDR-1000s provides no compelling advantage over my trusty Foxsat-HDR.
At first impression, one would think that Humax rushed out new kit without sufficient testing. More likely is that it was tested and many of the faults were identified, but higher management insisted that the release deadline had to be met come-what-may. Very sadly, I believe this has unnecessarily damaged the reputation of both Humax and Freesat. That said, I seem to remember that there were reports of multitudes of complaints and problems in the ‘old days’ with $ky boxes. Maybe as a consequence it is thought acceptable to rush out insufficiently functioning kit for satellite reception. It is interesting, by all accounts, Humax’s Youview models appear to be working faultlessly.
Hopefully, now, if the multitude of faults with the HDR-1000s have been fixed – and I sincerely hope they have – Humax can perhaps now devote some resources to fixing the ‘Rewind Live Subtitle’ bug they introduced to the Foxsat-HDR during an update over a year ago. Despite what I said above, this clearly shows Humax don’t perform proper ‘regression testing’ – checking that everything that used to work still works correctly with a new version. It also appears to demonstrate a less than enlightened dedication to their existing customers.

Well as you probably know they haven’t fixed the recording issue, if my box is left in standby for too long it will spin up the HDD and not start recording.
Those owners that have their box on all day long will not be affected. Looks like I will have to “BABY SIT” my HUMAX HDR-1000S over Chrstmas or leave it on permanently.

Having purchased the 1tb version a week ago, I’m disappointed. I have applied the first revision update but still problems persist:
1. Tuner 2 now receives no signal even when the cables are swapped. There is no indication this has happened, only that program recordings abort when you change channels.
2. The response times from the remote control are very sluggish when the system is switched on from standby. It seems there’s a lot of work going on in the background before the remote control becomes responsive

Is there a way of downloading earlier revison 1.00.15 ?? which worked ok
Was using a Goodmans HD box for some years which work great but thought upgrading to Freesat+ would be nice with the new menu system, how wrong could I be feeling I’ve wasted my money and can’t get a refund as I bought from Comet few weeks ago.

My HDR-1000S 1Tb just forced a reformat of the hard disc on waking from stand-by. Tried everything I could think of to get around it: backup and exit keys on the remote didn’t work. Switched off on the box itself – power lead out – then re-booted. Message still there. In the end had no option but to press OK – whereupon the disc reformatted, and I lost everything recorded.
Anyone else experienced this? Is it likely to recur – or is it a faulty drive perhaps? Everything’s working fine again now – but I can’t afford to have it wipe the drive whenever it feels like it in future!

HDR 1000S 1TB Was all working well – until morning of 31st December 2012.
Hard disc wiped clean of all Christmas tv recordings. If you push the instant record red button, the box no longer responds to either the remote (only volume control and mute button -which ironically when pressed doesn’t mute the sound) or even the buttons on the box itself. Have to turn off at the mains and reboot. Checked software and it appears in standby it must have auto updated to latest 1.00.16. and wiped hard disc, plus the big hitch of no longer able to record.
I am with comment 19 – any way of downloading previous software 1.00.15? when atleast we could record – and thanks to the muppets at Humax for losing all our Christmas recording – some of which is hopefully is on I and ITV player.

As a further update to my comment (currently number 16) The box started up from standby this morning and refused to respond to remote control buttons. It was behaving like a very slow Windows PC, remembering the key strokes but after an excessive amount of time. Performed a hard re-boot and eventually it came back to life. Still not convinced about the quality control on the software release.

Re MjO item 16
My Box showed 2 good tuners on arrival.
But after a day tuner 2 gave up.
Swapped back to my old humax box which showed 2 good inputs.
Emailed humax and supplier but get no reply.
There are clearly issued with the new model which I feel should not have been released in its fragile state. How do we get Humax to resolve these issues? It is clearly wrong for them to use us as Guinea Pigs. Comments invited
RogerhillsideQuote

It is a common bug that the 2nd tuner doesn’t show a signal; but it still works when needed.
adminQuote
January 3rd, 2013 at 4:41 pm
Whether this is a common bug is neither here nor there. I cannot record two channels at same time as it thinks one is not working. Clearly the firmware is not of a sufficient maturity to have been released.
RogerhillsideQuote

You didn’t say you had recording issues though and so assumed it was just the ‘tuner not showing’ bug. Probably need to speak to Humax and see what they say.

The blunt truth is the unit does not meet the specifications that the manufacturer advertises. I have received a reply from the seller, who is clearly not responsible for the operation of the unit, saying that early purchasers are used to help get the gremlins out. To a certain degree this is acceptable but I feel unreasonable liberties are being taken here. Users are in the rights to return the units. It is clearly time for HUMAX to act.

Did you ever get a list of the fixes included in the last update? Also, do you have any news on when we can expect the next update (as there are still plenty of issues)? And finally, any news on when we can expect 4oD and Demand5?

The fundamental product is good, and the structure will definitely work to freesats benefit in the long run, but based on the huge number of reports of basic issues with recording (not waking up from standby), lock-ups etc, then I’d probably only give it 5 out of 10 if I’d had experienced those issues at the time.
Software glitches are common on newly launched products, but the introduction of issues like the series link on the latest software update are somewhat unforgivable, as are the incredibly long wait times customers have having to spend on the phone to Humax to get a response, only to be told they call back and never do. I tried to get hold of them as a customer to see what the support was like and after an hour on hold, I hung up, only to ring back at 4.45pm to find the office was closed!!!

Thanks a lot Humax. Please test your software BEFORE freezing everyones 1000S !

Just spoken with Humax support. They know about the freezing problem and said that they will fix it in the next software update coming out sometime in FEBRUARY ! Apparently the update 1.00.16 only affects “some” 1000S boxes.
Humax support said I will just have to wait for the update as there is no way to roll back to 1.00.15. This is truely a scandal.
AndyQuote
January 22nd, 2013 at 5:12 pm
Humax have made some significant blunders with this update and many are suffering the issue of no signal input from tuner 2 which in turn has led to not being able to record two channels at once. Hopefully they will correct these mistakes quicker than “sometime in February”.

Re comment 19: freezing and lockups.
Have been experiencing the same issue. Have been able to change channels a couple of time just after the box starts up, But then either won’t, or will take a long time to do so (in which time I am switched over to the freeview in the TV). My issue did not start immediately after the FW update; only after the box was cold started sometime after New Year.
Had read on another forum somewhere about the first disk sector being referenced diffrently (didn’t really understand the tech side of the link as you can tell). So last night I was browsing through all the settings available, and found an option that allowed me to select if the box recorded the currently viewed channel all the time. Turning this option off now appears to not ‘freeze’ during channel changes, but you do lose the option to pause live TV. Not sure of any other issues this may introduce though; but is a bonus not to be nagged about not being able change channels all the time.
Am contemplating factory resetting and formatting the drive, but have loads of recordings still to watch, or don’t want to delete (kids stuff from Xmas period). WIll probably wait to see if there is a fix in Feb before taking this drastic action.
