It would seem that for the large majority of Freesat viewers the ‘little red button’ required to access the HD stream for the Holland v Russia match is missing. We spoke to ITV a short time ago who claim “technical problems” are the cause of such.

Considering the high profile nature of the game (its a quarter final after all), and given that ITV HD are presently only offering Euro 2008 in HD, this is a major disappointment and not one Freesat are likely to be too happy with.

    Yes – very disappointing.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I would have expected more content on ITV HD by now anyway.

i spoke to a technical guy at itv tonight and he informed me that the sound levels were due to obstructions between the two baked bean tins and the string supplying the sound for tonights game

I watched it ok.. But on a FTA (free to air) receiver.. How could they mess that up? Heard reports that Freesat receivers were re-booting when attempts to view were made in non-Freesat mode.

Looks like the only people able to view were neither Freesat or Sky customers . . What a waste of a broadcast . . There were probably more viewers in Europe than there were in the UK.

I have contacted ITV before commenting on the ‘slow release time’ of the audio compression, so far no change . . As if they would listen to me?

Poor show ITV, get that software sorted out . .

I’m pleased with Freesat (considering its so new) and the Humax box is good- but, i wonder why ITV did not mention they had difficulties with hd. I couldn’t help thinking that would have been nice and then one could easy understand and say ‘never mind i can see the game anyway.’

I spoke to STV today – and Freesat. No one at Freesat was comfortable about discussion the situation with STV – and what sort of “timescale” they have to provide the ITV HD. In all the run up to this no one has broached the subject and said “STV” is not in the mix. Had I known this then I would have not wasted the first part of Euro 2008 trying to discover what fault was causing the lack of HD on the matches.

The initial good stuff has been dented by the lack of honest coverage on the lack of ITV HD in certain regions.

Yet again we have to play catchup with the rest of the country.

Someone from STV needs to explain the position and apologise for wasting peoples time!!

Please stop the complaining, this is a FREE service made available to you. It’s new, and will have problems to begin with.

@ Nick – How naive are you ? I just paid £150 for the box – an element of that goes to freesat – if a service doesn’t work as it should I (and everyone else on this site) has the right to make a post flagging it up to others, it’s one of the things this site does so well – it gives a voice to freesat owners. I personally don’t over-complain as I’m well aware it’s a new service.

Viewers in central Scotland wanting the ITV HD service can (probably) get it if they put in a Newcastle post code and let the box do a channel scan. This gives ITV Central W on 103 instead of STV/Grampian. I have the Bush box with 90% signal and 100% quality.
