Putting aside a mention on a certain forum of the Travel Channel launching on freesat this month, we can confirm this information is true and the launch is likely to take place in the last week of March.
The Travel Chanel presents a unique perspective on the travel experience. Programmes transport viewers around the globe, from luxury getaways and culinary quests, from backpacking adventures to epic journeys. Travel Channel broadcasts to 130 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific 24 hours a day in 21 languages. The channel’s core programming includes, Off Limits, Bizarre Foods America, Destination Weddings hosted by Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 Deborah Henry, Globe Trekker, Bert the Conqueror, and World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides.
We put this rumour of launch to freesat but received the standard response:
We don’t comment about channels that may be joining Freesat. However, we are very excited about those with whom we are currently in talks. There are some big brands and great services that will make Freesat even better; all available subscription free.
Despite this, we have a solid source within another part of the industry that has finally confirmed this to us and like many others, look forward to welcoming the Travel Channel to freesat.

Man v Food! Some surprisingly good shows hidden amongst all the travel sales rubbish. Every addition is beneficial so no complaints.

Man v Food? Really? My brother loves that show but I can’t stand the sight of an American shovelling greasy food into his mouth.

haha, I just enjoy it for the aspect of making different food and stealing some spicy food recipes!
One question I have about this addition is will the +1 service launch along side it? I know the company that owns this channel also owns the food network & have both of their channels on freesat, so it would seem logical to expect both?

I’m unable to confirm that at the minute sorry. It would make logical sense given the 2 slots after the Food Network, but equally, there is 1 slot before

Yeah I would have presumed they would have given them the two after, or at least the option for in future. Still just a sport channel missing now!

At last, a channel worth waiting for. Indecently, Man v Food is on the Food network too.
So Freesat are ‘very excited about those with whom we’re in talks’ I wonder who they are?

Very impressed we are finally seeing The Travel Channel launch on the platform, one of few remaining decent channels which until now has never showed any interest in joining. It shows Scripps see value in the platform now that they’ve finally decided to bring it on board – this could be potentially good news for future UKTV additions if both parties who own UKTV support the platform (one half owns it).
As for LCN’s I do hope the +1 appears too, info TV have already confirmed 402 is reserved for Showcase 2 when that finally arrives so presume 405 and 406 are for Travel Channel.

Its about time I’ve had Travel channel a while but its a nightmare to get to being in the non freesat section on my sagem PVR. now then does does anyone know of any other channels worth a look at on free to air satellite tv that isn’t part of freesat?

No although there is an HD version in some countries, think it’s behind a paywall though. I’m just happy enough to get the SD version.

Yay, a decent channel! At least, it was decent last time I looked. Hope it hasn’t done a VH-1 on us by now!

Good news, Globetrekker’s an interesting programme and Keith Floyd shows are always entertaining. Thanks Travel Channel for finally seeing sense and joining Freesat.

I hope as it wasn’t today, it will be on tomorrow when that R&B channel rebrands, looking at Viva & 4od next month too?
DanQuote

To answer myself, it seems almost certain that both travel channel & viva will launch on 2nd April.
