Just tuned in and saw a load of old codgers going on about vintage TV, love the idea, but that put me right off and I’m 52!

Did not automatically retune on my Humax PVR. I had to do a manual retune.

@3Fluffy My Foxsat never automatically retunes. I always have to do it manually.

I expected Teachers TV to be removed on 650 as this has now closed however it’s still there. Maybe there’s plans to re-sell this to another broadcaster as it’s removed from Sky’s EPG (I’m told).

More dross. Where o where is Ch4HD, there was a nudge, nudge, wink, wink from Emma back in mid summer, we are now into September and not a word!
The goverment is now talking about sharing the TV licence between BBC & Ch4, As a public broadcasters, now after almost 2 years, Ch4HD should be on FreeSat, We should not be discriminated against just because we chose FreeSat and not FreeView!

I’ve been watching the channel and have to say that it is quite refreshing. Some classic tunes and good archive footage. The DOG is a bit big, but doesn’t detract from enjoyment. Great!

Seems ok so far…although the DOG is awful and the pic quality is not great…although a few of the music channels are like that.

Watched the end of the Rick Wakeman interview. Nice to see clips of him playing keyboards. Hopefully they will show some concerts?

@Oyodi
Might be “dross” to you, but clearly there are plenty out there that are pleased to see it.
As for C4[HD or otherwise] – what on earth is all the fuss about. I cannot recall the last time I was gagging to watch anything on it. But, I guess there are plenty out there who do. But I would not blanket label it as “dross” and insult those that do choose to immerse themselves!
I reserve that right to address the Country Music fans [see previous thread] who I am sure have broad shoulders and take the comments in good spirit.
After all – it is only telly!!!!!!!!!

Oyodi, can we give the C4HD thing a rest, if only for a short while! If it’s of any interest, Sky are currently clearing 10876V on Astra 2D, it’s only got two services left and 17MB of nullpackets. Who knows what it’s for but some suspect Channel 5′s bouquet of services (inc. Fiver, Five US), in return this may free up space on the BBC’s HD TP for C4HD?
As I say, only a best guess and don’t take as gospel! Things move fast in the world of Satellite broadcasting and plans can change from week to week. What is known is Sky are running out of TP’s to clear and convert to DVB-S2 (with no space to fit existing channels on an existing TP to clear), 2D TP’s are bandwidth restricted for HD use so they’d get more benefit doing a ‘swap’ with Channel 5′s 2A TP.
Not had chance to check out Vintage TV’s programming myself yet as I’m not at home until the weekend but from the sounds of it looks quite promising.

A little of topic.
Some posters on Digital Spy are reporting problems with Eurobird 1.
” Eurobird 1 seems to have been drifting off station slightly more than is normal for such satellites of late. Right now it’s reported at 28.57degE rather than its nominal 28.5degE.” The CBS channels for one http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1343342
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1342345
King of sat says it’s now at 28.6 E http://en.kingofsat.net/news28.2E.php
I can’t see any problems here at the moment, but may be it depends where you are in the country and line of sight..

Never mind about CH4HD what about STV HD for us Scottish Viewers??
Its been transmitting on non freesat mode for ages now and I’m sure the press release said they were working hard to get it on Freesat.
I know some on here have mentioned negotiation problems with ITV HD and Sky but do we have ANY update?

I’ve had a look at Vintage TV and I think it’s a very worthwhile addition. It’s a shame about the blocking and the intrusive DOG, but apart from that it’s great!

STV HD is beingheld up by to factors SKY wanting an encryption deal and ITV deliberatly delaying the launch on Freesat I guess old wounds run deep. ITV themselves in trouble, rumours are they are seriously considering dropping the channel 3 license and encrypting ITV1 especially if their back up plan for encrypting ITV2-4 fails. I don’t see 4HD joining anytime soon as they to allegelly have finance problems and will sort them out first. I watched a bit of Vintage TV they have some great music and some of their videos are well made compared to other music channels Vintage TV is very original and I am not even in their target audience.

#11 – Neil
“Oyodi, can we give the C4HD thing a rest . . . . .” I would like to second that. Oyodi has been part of this debate long enough to know what the issues are. Emma told us, in her replies a few months back, that bandwidth was not the issue preventing other HD channels joining Freesat. Channel 4 have contractual arrangements with $ky – probably a deal which grants $ky satellite exclusivity. Freeview is not involved with satellite broadcasting and is free to do a deal with channels like Ch4HD.
A relay transmitter near me has recently completed DSO and appears to offer a modest selection of HD channels. However, most of the channels which enrich Freeview (and are not available on Freesat) are not available from the relay, although they are available from the main transmitter. You pays your money . . .
And maediaman – those of us in the Vintage TV target audience spell it “licence”.

And maediaman – those of us in the Vintage TV target audience spell it “licence”.
Easily confused words
Do not confuse licence with license. Licence is a noun which means ‘ a permit to do something ’ ( a driving licence ), whereas license is a verb meaning ‘ give a permit to someone; allow something (as in Channel 3 license.)

Thought “License” was typically an American use of the work Licence??
Mediaman – ITV should be happy they made £97odd million this year compared to last, Crozier should be careful he doesn’t sink a delicately but more stable ship!!
It’s rumoured in media circles that C4 are keen to grab some bandwidth on 2D, lets be honest though that there isn’t any there at the moment as every Transponder is literally full. The only exception is reserved capacity for BBC1HD on the BBC HD TP together with what appears to be capacity being offloaded by Sky on 10876V.
Sadly it appears Sky are the ultimate Gatekeeper for remaining 2D bandwidth although if they want to increase their HD channel growth then they’ll soon run out of bandwidth to do so! Either SES will have to move 2C back to 28.2E or deals will have to be done to free up FTV services on widebeam transponders wanting to go FTA on 2D.

It seems to me that a post only generates plenty of interest and replies when dissatisfaction is experianced amonst the populas. (Spelling?)
It would seem then that this is a positive channel addition, well suited, as Alan has said above, for dipping in and out off.
Cheers Chris

Agree with Alan @19, different and a useful addition to Freesat. Just saw Free from 1970 Isle of Wight, very good quality and sound.

Teachers TV was removed from the EPG today.
It closed on Freeview first on 21 July and Freesat, Sky and Virgin followed on 31 August 2010. Teachers TV will continue to broadcast exclusively online.
