Brilliant, good to see LBC Radio finally on-board too, all Global’s radio services are now on-board freesat.

Always good to see new channels on the platform.

Good to have LBC as it’s recently been taken off DAB in my area (Fife).
I wonder if the savings from that paid for their Freesat EPG listing. Still get it on my internet radio though.
More HD channels please especially 4 family and 5.

Both channels are now live on the EPG. Holiday & Cruise is labelled as ‘HOLIDAY+CRUISE’ (short name ‘H+CRUISE’). LBC is on the EPG as ‘LBC 97.3′.

Why do freesat feel that there is a need to capitalise so many channel names?! Looks awful…

There have also been frequency changes for ‘Inspiration TV’ (690) to 11307H and ‘bid’ (802) to 11426V. Currently no EPG data for any of the 4 channels that have been added/changed.

Freesat allow the broadcaster to label as they see fit, which has to be the case for some, but agree it does look messy!

Thanks for the frequency changes, didn’t spot those.

Vintage changed frequency last week – I think it was Tuesday. No other changes took place as far as I can tell.

Wasn’t aware that had already happened! It’s not changed on Sky then yet as both feeds are still active (I think!). Looks like the chances of Arise News joining the platform are pretty diminished!! If they don’t get back on air in the next week or so they’ll loose their Sky EPG slot.

Not all LBC News is still missing, it’s a great station and would be a good addition to Freesat. I tune in regularly in satellite to keep up with all the news and events in London, so do most of my friends.

Thing is though, LBC News is only on air 12hrs per day Mon-Fri, doesn’t it simulcast LBC 97.3 the rest of the time? LBC News took what was Galaxy 105’s slot on Sky. Email them to find out but maybe it bring part-time now they decided it’s not worth the cost?

This freetime youtube bug is starting to grate… now the back button has gone from unresponsive, to exiting the app altogether. Can’t find any info on the wider web on this issue. Also, notice that youtube playback through freetime is a bit jittery, as if the frame rate is too low. No problems with the same app on my Bravia. No options within the app to change anything, so it’s not that useable currently.

There’s a new pay DTT (Freeview) channel launching on connected devices streaming pay-TV content from Viacom, Turner, A&E Networks and a few other broadcasters in the Autumn. It’s backed and powered by S&T who have done a lot of work on both Freeview and Freesat. Wonder if the same content will come to freetime set-top-boxes as would be quite a coup if so and give a boost.

I think there may have, or still are, some rights issues with LFC TV but your right, and if it can go spotbeam, they could go FTA saving them encryption costs and allowing the service on to Freesat. Motors TV is an oddity as it’s FTV but also available in Europe so not sure where the rights issues are there unless the UK version shows stuff not shown in Europe??

The other side of the coin is Sky are paying these two sports channels to be FTV and thus keeping them off the platform, we know only too well how BSkyB works!

Motors TV was fta for years when it first launched..

FTV channels dont get a bent cent from the Sky encryption pot.

Didn’t realise it used to be FTA, thought it was originally a pay channel at 28E. Appreciate the FTV channels don’t get any Sky sub money but Sky often do back hand deals to keep them encrypted such as free EPG placement/uplinking etc. Look at what C5HD got out of their deal.

They must be under their official teleshopping quota hence why on both freesat and Sky it is in the lifestyle section.

Yes, initial batch has sold out so possibly the retailers trying to hang on to stock. Either that or the margin was unrealistic to offer under £50; certainly seems that way.

Yes sorry, Humax have just informed me that the news in under embargo and shouldn’t have been released. It seems not everyone within Humax was aware of this information! I acted on it and had authorisation, which including being sent a revised image by Humax themselves. Freesat are aware of what happened and know it wasn’t my error. What is needed is new programs not new channels. Hundreds/thousands of hours of repeats every week. The BBC seem addicted to cooking and dance shows and old old old property programs from before the crash. Not value for the licence fee imho. Some people expect a new channel every other week but what is needed is exciting new programs on the existing ones. The Springsteen song 57 channels and nothing on was never so true as now.

These questions get asked a lot on here!

All the channels you mention are FTV because they are not on UK spotbeam transponders and so until Astra 2E/2F satellites are launched and the broadcasters agree with their uplink providers to move them to spotbeam transponders they’ll remain FTV. 4Music will no doubt be FTA at some point

Channel 5 HD is a unique case as it’s being kept FTV by Sky’s contractual terms for their carriage. I expect C5 HD to be FTA one day.

Thats a bit of as spurious argument – theres enough capacity on 1N & 2F to switch any of the existing widebeam frequencies to spotbeams tomorrow if the broadcasters so desired

The problem with all these 1N/2F transponders is that they are leased by individual broadcasters who either have crammed them to the rafters or have plans for current vacant bandwidth. If SES do succeed in taking over Eutelsat’s lower 11.2-11.7GHz downlink spectrum then I could then see some of the transponders going spotbeam at the uplink operators request (from the broadcasters using it).

This could be what’s replacing Fashion One as a sort of ‘freesat supported’ exclusive channel?
