All the channels you mention are FTV because they are not on UK spotbeam transponders and so until Astra 2E/2F satellites are launched and the broadcasters agree with their uplink providers to move them to spotbeam transponders they’ll remain FTV. 4Music will no doubt be FTA at some point
Channel 5 HD is a unique case as it’s being kept FTV by Sky’s contractual terms for their carriage. I expect C5 HD to be FTA one day.

Thats a bit of as spurious argument – theres enough capacity on 1N & 2F to switch any of the existing widebeam frequencies to spotbeams tomorrow if the broadcasters so desired

  2. I contacted LFC TV over a year ago. In their reply they stated that they have no interest in Freesat as it was too small. They said they preferred IPTV as it was growing faster.

The problem with all these 1N/2F transponders is that they are leased by individual broadcasters who either have crammed them to the rafters or have plans for current vacant bandwidth. If SES do succeed in taking over Eutelsat’s lower 11.2-11.7GHz downlink spectrum then I could then see some of the transponders going spotbeam at the uplink operators request (from the broadcasters using it).

  4. Please just give me CH5 HD and i’ll be happy.
PS, anybody know the sun bingo numbers for yesterday
Monday 9th, my copy got thrown out.

  5. Sky made the first ever Ultra HD broadcast on the 30th of August by recording a football match in ultra HD format and broadcasting it back to their own headquarters. HD will be the new SD and Ultra HD the real HD.

  6. Reports from a few days ago saying that UTV HD EPG data now being tested on 20780 11053H which is the ITV HD Granada transponer and rumour it may be on Freesat in November.

  7. There’s a new channel testing on the Freesat Home Transponder (11428H 27500 2/3) called LBP TV. It seems to be a sort of ‘new media’ type channel and is running a promo loop showing the sort of things it will be broadcasting. Being on the Freesat Home TP I’m guessing it will be Freesat exclusive and actually looks quite a promising channel in terms of some programming. This could be what’s replacing Fashion One as a sort of ‘freesat supported’ exclusive channel?

They need to broadcast in 16×9 not 4×3. Looks like another sub prime out fit. I want HD and 16x 9. This is unacceptable for a new channel in 2013 imho.
I see LBC News is FTA. Any news of them coming to Freesat in the near funture?

I agree richard but there should also be full 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound along with any HD channel;high quality sound and high quality pictures in 16:9 format go together naturally!

It’s actually a 16:9 picture but the AFD flag is incorrectly set at present. Not sure when this channel joins the platform but can’t be far away I guess?
