my Humax Freesat HDR keeps going blank for a few seconds when switching channels something it has not done before.

The Chanel will come on then go blank before it comes back on???.

Indeed, the more the merrier! People don’t like shopping or religious channels but they all add to Freesat’s coffers which is good for the platform. I’ll check out what BuzMuzik has to offer later on.

Maybe one day but not for a while!! Dave and Yesterday are the two most requested channels not on the platform (yet)!! Send UKTV an email asking them as only pressure from people asking (and the end of Sky encryption contracts) will increase their chances of appearing!

We had the first stage of the Freeview digital switch over in my area around midnight. We used to get Dave on a pretty poor signal. Now we have gained BBC 1 & 2 but have lost Dave! Quite a disappointment especially as I already get BBC 1 & 2 on Freesat.

My decision to go with Freesat seem the right one for me. Even when the Analogue terrestrial transmissions are ended next month I doubt if Freevie will offer the same extensive choice. Another thing that annoys me with Freeview is that a couple of channels on the guide are subscription only (Sky). It is a pretty poor show when Channel 4, Five and the ITV channels are not available on the Freesat guide!

The first stage is just that. Wait till the second stage happens then rescan again.

Another change that also appears to have happened at some point (no idea when) is S4C having changed transponder, as the old one has now been completely switched off so it must have been changed on Freesat.

I suspect that was part of the update on Tues and gone unnoticed? The remaining ITV micro-regions on 12402V have also now been migrated to 10994H so these should go FTA at some point and complete full ITV regionalisation for the platform. I suspect they’ll also add the missing Central E and Central S sub-regions too as there’s often a few complaints from people who miss their 10min regional East Mids news using Freesat kit in Nottingham!

Such as? And don’t say Dave. :-)
One persons channel worth watching is another persons garbage.
I sometimes watch a shopping channel when there is nothing else of interest. We need more diversity on Freesat. Too many samey heritage channels showing old programming.

I’m using a cheap BUSH Freesat SD receiver and its TV guide lists Channel4, Five and all ITV channels ok, so I cannot understant why yours doesn’t?

If you access your Freesat receivers settings menu you should be able to scan for Non Freesat channels, you will need to enter the correct Frequency(Mhz), Symbol Rate and LNB Polarisation details which can be found on sites like KingofSat or LyngSat. After doing a few scans you will have quite a few extra channels (apart from DAVE!) including 10 nice babe channels ;-) FTA channels do not show in the TV guide though, so read your user manual to see how you access them on your receiver.

It’s not been confirmed that this channel will be part of Sky’s HD pack yet, it could arrive on Freesat too (HD shopping channels will help sell products I suppose to the widest audience). They’ve spent £35m moving in to a new HD equipped studio complex.

Whether they come to Freesat or not it’s another 3 HD channels to add to my Manhattan HD favourites list :-) . That’ll be 9 then :-) . ( I add all HD channels whether they are my favourites or not.)

I know this isn’t really the place to ask such a question, but anyone experience sound breakup while watching the Jubilee Concert on BBC1 Freesat SD (not HD) last night? About every 5 seconds the sound would break which didn’t happen when I switched over to BBC1 Freeview…which was perfect. It may be my Bush Freesat receiver or the LNB though.

Does that apply to both Freesat and Freeview or just Freesat? Also, what are you using to find out the exact resolution?

    Cheers!

    Both DTT and DSAT

I checked it myself at work, aswell as confirmation on KingOfSat aswell as many other sat sites and forums too.
I also recorded a little BBC OneHD & BBC HD, played it through VLC player and the res was indeed 1920×1080.
    Finally, the BBC listening perhaps.

At last the ‘penny finally drops’ with BBC Management about HD quality! I must say, taking rain on camera lenses aside from the Sunday Pageant the HD quality of BBC1’s output over the long weekend has been better than I’ve ever seen. BBC1HD has previously only been 1440 res and only the BBC HD channel went up to 1920 for it’s 3D output at certain weeks last year.

I do also hope this is a permanent thing and not something the BBC plan to implement during the summer only, kind of defeats the whole point of HD if we only get the best resolution during top notch sporting and ceremonial events!! As there’s also been changes across all Freeview HD channels to 1920 res too then fingers crossed it is permanent.

I’m surprised full 1920 x 1080 resolution is possible on Freeview due to bandwidth restrictions, they normally need to axe a channel or something to add something! I wonder how much Freesat could handle, is there a limit to how many channels and HD channels it could take?

Good to see new channels joining but disappointed with BuzMuzik.

I was under the impression that this slot is for indie/alternative music but the new channel is the same dross as some of the others, R n B and chart stuff.

I hoped for something similar to NME content to give a bit of variety

Freesat is an EPG but obviously there has to be a limit somewhere. The BBC has been trying to sell it’s spare capacity that 5 didn’t take and hasn’t succeeded yet so it may as well up its resolution to 1920.There are a finite number of channels on 1N for a UK spot beam which is required for copyright reasons on UK only channels. Other than that pan European FTA channels can be on any of the other birds at 28E which gives huge capacity These channels are mostly also FTA on Sky platform.

I will connect up my Technosat HDFS for confirmation. That gives an onscreen read -out of the resolution and bitrate.

They are currently FTA (free-to-air) so accessible via the non-Freesat mode on your Freesat receiver, but there is no confirmation whether this is permanent or not.
